Project Persistance

Ever since my Family has gotten bigger the 2dr truck wont fit us all when we go to car meets, so we needed something bigger. Ive been intruiged with several suburbans and crew cabs on here. I set out to find one that met my needs. 1973-78 1/2 ton 2wd 454 with all the trim that wouldnt break the bank. After a year of searching ive found the ONE. Only down side is that its in Fresno California so i have to have is shipped to here in Houston. The 60 couple i bought it from used it for the better part of 30 years to take thier kids on trips and tow thier boat to the lake. Its been a part of thier family so its nice that it will continue its life taking my kids on trips.....

The Plans are to remove running boards, bumper guards, hood visor and dumbo mirrors. Initially im going with a static drop with 20" rims that are on my truck. long term plans will be bags and a 6.0 LSX swap. Here are the pics that me decide to pick this one.

Re: Cherubs Burban Project

Just a little update. I put a deposit for a transport broker company to pick up my Suburban. being the first time i have had a vehicle shipped I didnt know how things worked. Come to find out that what these brokers companies do is put your truck out on a board for any driver in the area to pick up if they like the price that was set. Even though i was told a pick up date and time, the broker has yet to contact me with further information on the status of a driver to pick up my truck. I cant get through to customer service and the sales rep is giving the run around. So i said @#$k it. Im going to fly out and drive this beast back. got my tickets for the 16th of june. me and my friend are going to fly out and drive back by sunday. Our route will be from fresno to Phoenix in a day. Then to Houston for the second leg of the trip. Any advice would be great.

When I worked at Hertz, I got calls every day from those transport brokers. They'd be looking for pieces to go a certain direction to fill out a load, or looking for a load in general heading in a certain direction. A lot of times these poor transport trucks go one way with a full load, and come home empty. It costs the same just about for these trucks to run empty or full, but of course empty they make no $$$. I'd hear of them sitting for days at a time waiting for a load because they could not afford to go back home empty.

Glad to hear you're flying to get it though. Nothing like just getting it done yourself.

Well still no call from the transport company. but i figured would happen that two weeks ago. but on to better news. I picked up a sertpentine set up for the big block from the junk yard and ordered the 5"flip kit and 2.5 spindles. I cant wait till next week to go pick up the new member of the family

My brother has shipped two cars down to South Texas. One from Cali and the other from North Carolina. Cost was fair for the trip. Not bad considering the cars were enclosed in a trailer. Only advice I would give is take breaks and get a good nights sleep
the trip is long.

I used dependable auto shippers to send a car from California to me when I lived in michigan...It wasn't the cheapest, but it worked out on time.

I think it looks great wheel the wheel size on it now. If it were mine, I would bring the front down another inch or so. Just my personal taste.

Thanks for sharing pictures of the journey along the way. It looked like you guys had a great time. Congrats on the new project, great buy :metal:

Wow, what a difference...looking good. I picked up a Bronco in Phoenix a couple years ago and drove it to Michigan with my Dad-Great memories. I am currently waiting for a 74 Burb shipping from Cali that is supposed to be here week of July 4th, (hopefully on time) and seeing what you have done here in such a short time really inspires me! I may post some pics here- Best of luck.
