99 Silverado Cruise Control, Plug and Play

My truck is a 99 Silverado 1500, 4.3, 5-speed.

I've read discussions about adding factory cruise control to non-equipped trucks.

I can only speak for my truck but here goes:

Swapped in a multi-function switch with cruise buttons. There were a couple plugs in the new switch that didn't seem to have a home under the dash, that proved to be a non-issue. I installed a cruise/cable module under the hood from a GM truck with a V8. The factory plug for the cruise module is in the harness at the brake booster, very visible with a factory cap covering the end. The cruise control works flawlessly including the green cruise light in the instrument cluster. The cruise disengages when the brake is applied or the clutch pedal is pressed.

The extra plugs are for trucks with automatic transmission.

The only issue I ran across is cable length. I will eventually swap out my module for one from a 4.3 truck for better fitment. GM no longer carries the replacement cable I need.

During my research I found that drive by wire (DBW) trucks only need the column switch. DBW is handled by the PCM, no module/cable is needed.
