Urethane primer over epoxy??

So I have to apply epoxy primer because the truck won't be painted for a while. This will of course allow for any body work, filler, whatever. Now some say I can paint directly over epoxy without sanding.
Some say to sand the epoxy first than paint.
Some say to apply urethane primer over epoxy without sanding the epoxy.
Some say the epoxy needs to be sanded first before urethane primer.
So which is it??
Thanks.
😕

What epoxy are you using? What does the tech sheet say....

I have used Southern Polyurethanes epoxy...

For their epoxy...

You can topcoat within 7 days without sanding. After 7 days you need to sand it...

Re: Urethane primer over epoxy??

I use PPG's Omni brand and you can recoat the epoxy within a 24 hour recoat "window". After 24 hours it needs to be scuffed then recoated with whatever [you can top coat right after epoxy prime but you wont be happy with it]. If the epoxy primer sits for any real time at all, I sand with 220 or something close, and then recoat the epoxy then go with the high build that I use. Have fun. Make sure to have a bigger tip for those types of primers say 1.7 or 1.8. Jim
