Steering column question
1957 truck.
Any one who has used a Flaming River or Ididit column what length did you use. Is one brand better than the other? What about customer service after the sale? Thanks Kim |
Re: Steering column question
They are both quality columns, I didt sometimes take a while to get if its anything out of the norm. If your buy one that's in stock get the best priced one.
32 is a good length depending on if you have floor shift or column shift 30-32 works |
Re: Steering column question
I bought a 30" standard tilt Ididit (floor shift) for my 57 w/2nd gen subframe and IROC box. It allows a proper distance between me and the wheel, and the wheel and the dash (w/3.5" drop), and still protrudes adequately to stay within the maximum 35 degree allowable arc of the Borgeson swivel.

Re: Steering column question
I bought an Ididit 32" column with column shift for my 58,it seemed a little to long,it got in the way of the headers.and the shift linkage,I was able to sell it to a friend.Monday i'm going to buy a 30" ididit

I plan on using a floor shift and my headers are shorties so a 32 may work for me. Kim |
Re: Steering column question
Kim
the 32" will work fine for you,the biggest problem I had was the shifter arm was real close to the headers, the colunm was installed and I was going to use it,but then my buddy came along and I sold it |

I've had both companies in my street rod and my truck. I put a Flaming River 32" in the truck and I have my seat as far back as I can in the cab. I also put a floor shift in my 56. Also, the Flaming River people are very helpful to talk to. |

Re: Steering column question
Kim, my Ididit ordered for the 55-57 is 31" floor shift. After I got it and finally took it out of the packaging, it dawned on me I should have just gotten a column shift as when I looked at my 55 GMC 2nd gen, with a factory V8 factory GMC Truck Hydro-Matic, it would have almost looked the same overall.
