1978 GMC Sierra Classic: asking for input
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Chevy Owners: I have owned a 1968 C-10 stepside for over 30 years, so long time owner here, but new to the forums and would like to hear some ideas from the community. Decided to add a square body to my collection and found this original 1978 GMC, excellent condition, original SB350 with 350 turbo trans, all stock truck, with about 77500 miles and I am the 3rd owner. Truck is all stock, period correct, no mods, with owners manual and proper docs to match. Since I am doing a major restoration on my 1968, I now have the GMC for another daily driver. So, I had originally wanted a square body to do the drop and LS conversion for a 2nd project once I finish my other truck.
Now I really wonder if I should keep this GMC all original and not modify? Any thoughts? Thanks for looking |

NICE!!!...If it were mine, I would leave that one as is. I prefer trucks as close to original as possible. People tend to make mods and that's ok, just not everyone has the same likes. My 74 C10 is about 98 or 99% original.
Do you have more pics? Interior, engine. |

It's only original once!

I agree, keep it original. There's only so many of these trucks in that kind of shape that haven't been messed with. Plus you can't beat that clean stock look!

My initial reaction was to say make it a shortbed and plop an LS in it...but look at it...it's really nice. It would be a shame to chop that thing up.

that truck is too nice to modify!!!!!!

I would donthe LS if the engine is going bad, or just a regular overdrive if the engine is good.
For me what ever you do. Do not mess with the body, and save what ever suspension you pull out. |

That one nice looking 78 SIERRA wow stock is Kool or as stock as can be.

Re: 1978 GMC Sierra Classic: asking for input
It is your truck to do with as you want. But given its condition, I would leave it as is while you are finishing the 68. Then if you still want to do a lowered LS conversion, find a a 2nd 73+ with a wore out engine and shot suspension. That way no guilt about ripping parts out of an almost pristine truck.
It it possible that in a few years, you can sell that 78 for a nice profit without doing anything other then needed maintenance. |
Re: 1978 GMC Sierra Classic: asking for input
leave the motor, lower it. Only takes a couple hours to put the suspension back to stock if you want.
