Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

So I receive an email about the Fitech power command center. It is back ordered again. Now not a week but a month. 5/27 is ship date. I am thinking about going another route with the high pressure fuel system. Not sure yet. In tank pump? High pressure pump on the frame rail? Damn it.

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

Looks great where did you get the manifolds from? How about running a carb until the FI ships and then swap it in?

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

I ordered them from rockauto. They are Dormans. The driver side is a better quality than the passenger side. But not bad for 70$ each.
The throttle body/carb set up will be shipping 5/6 but we will see. I have the holley 650 double Pumper on the Shelf if I have to use it. I just didn't want to have to move stuff around.

lookin good there man.

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

Hopefully the FI will ship soon, IMO rigging a temporary carb setup to dial in the new motor, drive train, etc. could keep you guys moving forward. Did you weld up the EGR holes in your new manifolds?

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

I am thinking of putting the carb on like you said. Just get it going and do the fi at a later date. On the manifolds when I ordered them they didn't show the holes....but they came with solid metal plugs so I snugged them up and cut the heads off. Also had to grind on them to clear the valve covers.

I had the seat recovered by a buddy of mine. the seat from had a broken weld on it. I welded it up and he pained it and recovered with all new foam. looks pretty good. It is a early 60's truck seat with the ability to fold forward. So i put this in my sons '70 since he doesn't have a fuel tank in the cab. Now he can access behind the seat easily.

I was able to work on the truck a little last night. worked on routing the wiring and installed the t-case shifter in/on the high hump. I was thinking of using the original black boot and ring to give it the old school look rather than the plastic box. What do you guys think? I am not sure I have seen anyone do that to a NP208 swapped in these trucks.

I think in the picture the shifter is in the 4 Hi position. As it sits down more in 2 Hi. I even thought about welding on the original arm. More to come on this.

Just received an email from FItech regarding the FI system. Now the anticipated ship date is 6/15/16 :whine: so definitely going to put the Holley on it. Got the front drive line rebuilt and installed, just waiting on the rear one to be built.
hope to get the front clip on by the weekend....

OK so I got the Holley 650 DP out of the box(dated 1995)and installed. Damn that carb is big and heavy... I started working on the linkage and like a lot of stuff on the truck it has to be modified. The stock linkage from the 68 or the 70 won't work. One is too long and the other too short. Now onto research what linkage would work best.....

I also found a front drive line at the local wrecking yard 40$... What do you know it was 31.5" flange to center of the u joint(what I needed). Fit great so I just installed new u joints and through it in....something must be wrong as that was too easy

I snapped a quick picture (but not the best as it was dark out)of the front with the sway bar and everything torqued tight.
When I get this Carb issue complete and plug wires on I can get the front clip on!!!

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

Not saying it was the best solution but i clipped off the nub that attaches to the pedal assy then shortened the sheath to the proper length, then bought one of the cable stops at a hardware store (or was it an auto part store?) its a cylinder that is threaded for a screw and its cross drilled to allow a cable to pass thru. Its worked ok for the past 20 some odd years.

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

Moving right along nice score on the drive line!

Here is some food for thought on some bracketry https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...s_and_linkage/ also you might take a look into other GM/Chevrolet models of the era that came with a Holley like Corvette, Camaro & Chevelle all came with a non throttle cable linkage set up similar to yours for ideas. :mm:

Re: Project "Hulk Jr"

Hey Brett. I was looking at that same page last night. I found what I need just need to order it.

I was able to disassemble the original choke cable and replace with a longer cable so it would fit the Holley. So the dash will look the factory down to the choke cable and knob.

I cut and welded up the throttle linkage I had that was 3-1/2" to long. Now it fits great and has 3 inches of adjustments still. I do need to install a spacer so I can adapt from a 1/2" to 1/4" rod. I think I am going to make something.

When done I will post a few pictures.

Finally got the boys at the shop to get the rear springs removed to install the add a leafs and replace all the bushings. While they were working on the springs I was able to fix the carburetor linkage. I installed a new 700R4 kick down cable mount and connector on the carb itself. I bet I have 50$ just in the linkage setup. I forgot to snap a picture as I have the boys there and wanted to get the most out of them!!!

You can see the difference in the rear springs. the add a leaf put a good 1" to 1-1/2"
I noticed that the leafs are not even or centered. The center bolt is about 3/4"-1" toward the front eye of the leaf. has anyone noticed this?

You guys see any problem with this??? the alignment of the throttle rod worked better going to the inside. I will try the air cleaner and see if it is a problem.

Got the rear leaf springs rebuilt and installed. Drive line is in and front shocks are on. I started working on the exhaust. It may need a little massaging on the passenger side.

Does this master cylinder look to be going down hill towards the front?

Got a chance to work on the exhaust Saturday. The driver is installed but needed an S bend to offset the pipe around the transfer case. I hope to finish up in the next day or 2. I picked up two 45 degree bends to make my own offset s bend.

Swamprat, thanks for the links... I guess my Master/brake booster is normal.

My sons 70 c10 is getting a new windshield today. I removed the old one last night and found a few spots of rust. I cleaned it up and put some rust converter on it. Other then the black it looks good and shouldn't rust anymore in those locations but the truck will need a paint job soon. You won't see the black after the new Precision window seal is installed with the window and polished stock stainless Steel trim.
