New guy from NC - Father/Son project 1964 C10

New guy from NC here. I've been lurking for a week or so, but decided to go ahead and post up. I'm new to this site, but not new to vBulletin forums, as I usually join one for whatever I'm working on. On to the truck, since that's why we are all here...

I picked up a 1964 C10 with no engine or transmission about two weeks ago. I bought it as a project with my 9 year old, for him to drive when he gets to high school. I should be able to get it driving in the next 6 years! The body and frame are solid, with very little rust (surface rust doesn't count!), and it is reasonably straight. There are a few places in the sheet metal with some less than perfect repair work, but nothing that some replacement metal won't fix. The current plan is to replace suspension, do a rack and pinion conversion and disc brakes (probably going to just do a TCI bolt in on the front, and POL parts out back). It is absolutely getting an injected LS (probably an LQ4) for reliability and fuel economy. I'll decide what to do with paint and body once we get to that point. It's gonna be a lot of work, but the memories will be fantastic. On to the pics...

I have no idea why vBulletin keeps rotating the interior pic. Sorry about that!

Welcome.

I did the same 8 years ago with my son. We bought a 69 4WD short bed.

When you are a dad, or an old guy, or both (lol) these trucks can bring back memories.
Your truck reminded me of my military days in the 80's. A buddy of mine had a 64 maybe a little more pickle green color. It had been put on a blazer chassis with a lift kit and 38" tires. It had a dump truck big block, 366 I think, it would barely run 50 but it would pull hell right up off its hinges.

I immediately remembered the big green pickle.

Started to babble. Good luck with the truck. And you are right. The truck will be well worth the memories pretty much however it turns out.

From NC as well.

Scott

Cool father/son project. I'm just one town over in Advance. I usually try to make it to a few of the Mocksville cruise ins.

Scott - The bright green is what caught my eye while I was browsing Craigslist (that's my time waster). That sort of green has always been my son's favorite color. So awesome to hear of other father/son projects.

The guy I bought it from over in Clemmons just finished a 66 with his dad last year. He's about my age (36), and his dad is pushing 60 or so. I don't have many memories of these trucks on the road, but I've always been a gearhead. We've just torn down part of the front sheet metal, and I'm already loving the time in the garage!

The first day we started it was one our brutal late July early August days here in NC. The kind of day that punches you in the stomach when you step outside.

My son was sweating profusely as we worked. He was 14, and said I'm going to nanny's to get a Gatorade. I told him to bring me one.

I tease him today, just turned 22, that I am still waiting for the Gatorade.

My pops turned me onto the 72's as a kid. He always had one as long as I could remember.

I do like that truck and hopefully you can find a really close green when you get there.

I'm digging the green.
