Good suspension for bad spine...
 

Lately, I've been thinking and reading about air suspension. I know I want to lower my 1969 C-10 3/4 or 3/5. I have 2 1/2" drop spindles to install, but, I have bought nothing else. I will be installing a 1973 front crossmember with all of the essentials plus the brake lines, prop valve, and booster/master. I broke my neck in the military, and now have three vertebra fused. I also have 4 bulging/herniated discs and bone loss in my lower back. From what I understand, air suspension is a much better ride without the loss of handling. I read on hear a lot about laying frame and quite expensive systems. I don't want to lay frame or autocross. I just want a ride that won't make my neck hurt or make my legs go numb. Are there any systems that are comparable in price to a spring suspension drop kit with shocks? I understand that the air will be more, but I can't afford any of the mac daddy systems... I will also be installing at minimum, a front anti sway bar. It has nothing now and is very sloppy. I do appreciate all of your input!

Bagged trucks (done right) ride smoother than any truck (new or old) that I have been in. Invest in a good shock and you will be happier regardless of bagged or not. Look at No Limit's relocation kit for their shocks.

You don't need to swap crossmembers. What drop spindles did you get? You can get disc breaks for them.

Is your truck a trailing arm set up? You can swap all your springs for bags and run a simple Schrader set up. Wont cost much but you cant adjust on the fly. Way2low2 has cheap kits, AZProperformance can get you set up for cheap too.

I'm missing 3 of my discs, resulting in pretty much every vehicle ever being uncomfortable, but suprisingly my '66 is pretty tolerable.

I'm about 4/5 or 4/6 drop, 15" tires, trailing arm rear etc. The truck overall rides good, and when I added QA1's to the front it did a lot for the "bounding" over bumps etc that the larger profile tires give. My suggestion is to run the longest travel shock you can fit on your given drop. Also, if your gonna ride around low, cut your bumpstops out and add aftermarket ones.

I forgot to share my back problems! hahah

I had a laminectomy/discectomy on L5/S1 and have a herniated disc in my thoracic. I'm only 30!
