67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Starting it back up. Working a 67-72 Chev Crewcab built to an original look if Chev would have built a 67-72 Crewcab. Keep following as I continue this build.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Hey guys had a 68 caddy come in with trunk rot going to be sharing the shop with the crewcab project, will be bouncing back and forth. Watching my adhd wreek havoc. I might put up some pics of the caddy project also if you guys get a chance check out my website. Gonna be taking alot of pics of the 4th door, I feel its one of the easiest parts of the job especially after the B pillar. I know the pictures don't tell the entire truth but my B pillar is an exact mirror image of the passenger side without the overlap seam.

Definitely checking out your site... :)

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
The cabs that you sell I assume would be to the same "factory" design?
|
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Define "factory"

"it will look built to an original look if Chevy would have built a 67-72 Crewcab" to me that would be as he put it "Factory" Design. So it sound like you both are on the same page. More pictures. :chevy::metal: |
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Ok, hope you all had a great Christmas, I know we did. Before I get started talking about the build, for all you fabricators like myself you will be able to appreciate my new organization skills, ie my new fabrications cart.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...40988190_n.jpg Well the caddy ended up being pandora's box but I'm close to finishing, I've been very excited about starting the door so I took a break from the caddy for a day to work on the 4th door. If you'll notice the front door to the left and the right rear door to the right, there is such a difference between the two that I will not be using a front left door to make the rear left door except for the door latch. Also showing a picture of the cut out from the 3rd door hinge area I will be completely fabricating a mirror image of what you see however it will be using a thicker sheet metal for more strength. Will be making a couple other improvements though nothing you would ever know by looking at it. For those you with a weak stomach I'm sorry you had to see perfectly good 3rd door cut up but it is for better of all crew cab kind. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...33132596_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...53963768_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...71440035_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...40677736_n.jpg Looking forward to difficulty of fabricating this door piece way more than doing the rest of the door, how weird is that? Also am just about ready to cut up the other suburban and I have two more on the way, the one I am currently cutting up had a nice interior will be using most of it on the crewcab. I talked to an upholster today for those of you who are familiar with the headliners that come in some of the trucks we are going to duplicate that head liner to fit the crewcab one piece. |

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Just finished up the hardest part of the door. This is one piece of metal, no graphs anywhere, just heated, bent and shaped. Bolted it onto the B pillar and it fits like a glove. Really having a good time building this truck it is going to be my daily driver.
The suburban I am cutting up to be the next cab build is shaping up to be a very nice starting plat form, minimal rust and the dash is unmolested, still has factory radio in it. Just about to pull the original motor out and run the numbers to see what I have. Have a question, and open to your opinions. On future cab builds I am thinking about making the rocker on both sides a continous piece from the back of the back door to the front of the front door and one gage thicker. Every cab I build the B pillars will be filled with rust resistant coating than drained as well as the rockers. Would love your input. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...06528827_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...36856892_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...50642562_n.jpg |
Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Beautiful work !

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
If you have the means, I think the one-piece rocker would be a good idea. Are you planning on going a gauge thicker than stock, or thicker than reproduction? Are you going to carry the B-pillar down to the bottom of the rocker? Also, you have obviously noticed how the B-pillar is open to the elements from the drain in the inner rocker. I would love to see what you are doing with the rust preventative and sealing this off.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Looking forward to seeing this project come together. Great work so far!!!

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build
Yes thicker, the long one pice rocker as well as the b piller will be treated and foam
Filled . The B piller will come down to the top of the rocker. |
