My 1980 Silverado build thread
Hey guys and gals. Just wanted to start a build thread for my 1980 short bed. So here is the history.
The truck is a 1980 Short bed Silverado 2WD that I bought from my Father in-law. The truck had been stored in is shop for the past 10 years. It has 80,000 miles and was pretty much bone stock minus the .243 bullet hole in the floor. It still has the functional 8-track player :metal:. So far I have pulled out the blown 305 and installed the motor I originally built for my 69 C10. I do need some help with the motor but ill get that in a later post. Here is the stats so far. Weld wheels on the front (been waiting on the rear wheels since June.... Weld is slow) Fi Tech 600hp Power adder is going on this weekend. So hopefully she will be screaming down the road soon.... |

VERY NICE!!!! I've always loved the 1980 :metal:
What rear disc brake kit did you use? Parking brake or no? Do you know what the rotors are from, for replacement? That 383 is going to be awesome! :chevy: |

Well I guess I should do an update on the truck. I have been spending most of my time over on the turbo forum trying to get all the bugs worked out and the truck is pretty much done now.
So I blew the 383 to pieces one day. (long story about FiTech that I wont go into) Found me a 6.0 LQ4 out of a 2006 Yukon Denali. Yanked out the old 383 and started getting the motor ready for paint. |

Fast forward a few months and I installed a LJMS stage 2 turbo cam package with push rods and valve spring, Got some up and forward turbo headers and built my hot side and exhaust.
Edit: Sorry for the sideways pictures. Just pick your monitor up and turn it sideways for the full effect. I will fix the sideways pictures tonight on my laptop. My work computer wont let me turn them to the correct orientation. |

Over the past few weeks everything has really started to come together. I have the truck tuned and driving awesome. I relocated the coils and have started cleaning up the engine bay. I have the truck entered at the C10 Nationals at Texas motor speedway in may so its been a mad dash to clean it all up.
This has all been a learning experience for me and I have had a ton of help from other forums and friends. If anyone has any questions or wants other pictures let me know and I will post them. Thanks for following along. |

Re: My 1980 Silverado build thread
Looks good man. Why Holley EFI vs GM PCM and HPT?

I really liked the user interface of the Holley and the built in digital dash. I have a Megasquirt system on my wife's car and tuner studio was ok. Ive never messed with HP tuners but I do know they offer a very nice system but I guess the main reason I went with holley was the harness. I think they had the nicest quality harness. Plus all of the built in ICF's are a huge time saver. |
