Blower Resistor....

Killed yet another blower resistor.
What ever possessed the designer to put it IN the air plenum, at the low spot, where condensation builds up? Especially in the winter, when you run the defroster all the time, which runs the A/C, which makes it worse.
Seriously? It needed to be at the lowest spot?

Gm had a safety recall for some of those truck could cause a fire.

They aren't covered anymore. GM extended the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for the resistor and the wiring. All of the trucks affected are older than 10 years old now.

FYI make sure and check the wring pigtail for any signs of discoloration which means overheating and burnt connectors. This will add resistance to the circuit and burn up even a new resistor.

I ordered a kit which included the connector . You have to splice the wires together but it will give you a new connector as well . Seems like it was a dorman and has worked for quite some time with no problem .

Replaced the pigtail a couple resistors ago. The Dormans don't last any better than any others. Problem is condensation. The resistor is in the lowest place in the plenum, and water builds up and shorts it out. I tried making a spacer that had a couple small gaps to let the water out but it whistled horribly.
