Cadillac style air filter

Does anyone run the 50's style caddy air filter on their BBC?

Comments, opinions and photo's would be very welcome.

I have this one on my SBC. I got it from Speedway Motors.

My plan is to paint it match the color of the truck.

No issues. I had an Edelbrock open filter on it and went with this to quiet things down a little bit. I also think it looks really cool. :)

I have an open K&N filter on a Holley.

I agree that it looks really cool and if it quietens things down then it ticks the boxes!

It's not a big block, but Caddy air filter on a new crate motor SBC. Plan on doing some painting to make it stand out. It's sitting on Holley Street Avenger, using a stock transmission dipstick and it clears it barely, no concerns with hitting distributer. I am running a carb spacer.

Do all you guys run carb spacers with this filter? I'm afraid it won't clear my hood

I have a Edelbrock Performer with a 3/4-inch spacer under the Holley carb, but the air cleaner sits right on top of the carb. There are no clearance issues on my 72.

The NASCAR guys run an airbox almost like that. Turn it backwards, cut a rectangular hole in the firewall just below the cowl and build a duct to go from that into the air plenum openings on that filter cover. CHEAP RAM AIR! It's good for 4 pounds of boost (at 160 mph).

Don't mind the pieces of coyote splattered all over the engine in the picture. It's all that was left of poor ole Wylie after Brad Coleman hit him at 190 mph.

Yes, it is! Didn't do much for the coyote, though. And no, the photo is not a photo shop fake. Brad Colemen hit it at the Toyota test track in Arizona on August 17 2009 at 190 MPH.

I run a one inch spacer and no clearance issues.

Is this filter in your photo the large version or the shrunk down version?

The large is 18”x17 or something close to that. Do the large version fit on the sbc and if so does it look too big? I think it was made for a Cadillac 500 ci.

The smaller one is like 14x15”

Planning on ordering one for my 66 c10 with a 350 edlebrock performer intake and edlebrock 650 cfm 4 barrel.

My opinion is a '50s air cleaner on a late '60s-early '70s truck

I like the Ortega Motor paint job!

These things look like the Buick "Star Wars" air cleaner. Most guys with the really high performance Buicks use something else, because those air cleaners are fairly restrictive in those cases.
