Re: pto part #

there is a LOT more to a pto than if it just bolts on . . .

ratios for speed output and power ability .

also the pto must be for the exact style/model of trans or it will need the gear swapped if there is one and or if parts are even avalible anymore for lots of old pto units.

if the tag is gone off it good luck . . .

best way is
1- buy new for end use and order it for exact intended use.

2- used take off from a tranny that's your style and has the output needed.

some pto units can flip flop left or right side tranny some cant . depends on gear style.

also some can be diss assembled and the output shaft flipped to make it front or rear output . . not all tho can .

good luck most used I have ever seen for a 465 are rear faceing output for a hydro dump box.

Are you just going to replace the sm420 with a sm465? Or are you using a married np205 as well?
If going with a 205 I would use a pto on it.

PM me about finding one.

was thinking of going with a married 465 and 205. I have a pto on my 420 now and if going to the newer set-up would like to kinda keep it the same. might be able to send my pto in and maybe change the gear for a 465 one. Just thinken as my 221 is pretty loud.

pto on 205 tcase would give you reverse on pto . . . .

and 221 older rockwells are straight cut gear = noise .

rockwells are not strait cut on the high side and not necessary noisy, but a pto on the transfer case is cheaper and does give you more options for speeds of the winch.
If I were going to the expense of changing to a married trans and NP205 I would go with an Nv4500 & 205. You could use a Dodge gas input 1 1/8 input and an adapter about 3/4" thick to bolt to your existing bellhousing and clutch and use your existing hydraulics and make a new rear drive shaft and shorten the front. But you will also have to move the hole for the trans shifter back and move the transftercase shifter to the other side as well as find another gear or PTO for the trans.
Or considering the expense of the conversion and use of the truck I would look closely at just getting a divorced NP205 and leaving the existing trans and transfercase shifter with a bellcrank to give some what similar shifting as the rockwell.
The cheapest option would be to find another rockwell to rebuild.

61K10 I looked back through your build thread to see what type of PTO you have and I am not sure if you can get a replacement gear for one that old.
I did notice however that your boot for the PTO shifter is very small and wanted to see how the linkage is set up to shift it, I could find no pics with the linkage in it and wondered if you might have one or could get some of it, maybe explain how it operates?

New muncie pto $900, a little out of my range. Would love to have a nv4500 set-up but pretty $$$. Found a good deal for the 465/205 as why i was interested. I have thought of a divorced 205 (probably the best way) but not many around. Yes a rebuilt is $900 + shipping. I wanted to keep the tk as stock a i could, but that doesn't make it a good driver in today's environment. will take some pic for you of the pto linkage. ck back tonight.

2 Attachment(s)
a straight rod down to the pto (activates in & out) has a tab welded to the t/f case shifter linkage bracket on the trans, and just pivots. this was all on the tk when i bought it, except i built a new driveshaft to the winch.

Re: pto part #

It's just in and out.
Not forward-neutral-reverse?
Mine has forward neutral reverse and requires a long slot to operate.
I have thought about going to air so I don't have the hole in the floor.

Re: pto part #

If you were closer I could set you up with an nv4500.

Yes mine is just in and out and you use the trans for different winch speeds.

nv4500's are pricey here, though i haven't went and looked for one. on c/list about $600 up. I need to sell some stuff and then look for a divorced 205. my 221 makes more noise in 2hi/4hi than 4/L. thanks for the reply----------
