Scars are in?
 

I was listening to C10talk the other day. It was the episode with David Freiberger. During it, it was brought up that these converted short bed trucks are hot right now. (I totally agree) But what they said next blew me away. Everyone calls the finished metal lines scars and now this is the new thing? Really?

Are we talking about the lines from cutting the bed, or from cutting the frame? or both?

I like closing the tailgate after loading 15 sheets of plywood and laughing at the guys trying to figure out how to fit a couple 2x4's in their truck with a 5' bed.

I love my longbed.

May be just me but that would not be "scars" to my way of thinking. Just an unfinished project mod that needs some more work to be presentable. Has the same look as a house being remodeled with OSB and Tyvek wrap showing. Needs siding and paint to be finished. To each his own I guess. :lol:

damn, it its not one thing about this subject its another.
I cut my frame and used a diamond phish plate that is welded to the outside of the frame, because i do not care what others say. Heck i am proud of what i did. so if that is a scar, then yes i have a frame with a scar and new bed.

No, no, no. The "Scar" is not on the frame cut. People are referring to the cut/weld lines on the shortened long bed sides as these "Scars". It's not what I'd deem cool, but who am I? :lol:

I have no problem with a cut down long bed. I am actually trying to piece together a 2wd swb C20 and I plan to do this with a long bed too. Because new SWB bed sides are a grand. Haha

I've called dents and scratches battle scars before but never homemade (professional) mods! That's like comparing a war wound to a facelift. No purple hearts given for latter. I see it all the time with the 4x4's. GM just didn't make enough for all the new fans.

There is a '68 F100 running around my area with these "scars".
The owner also cut down the tool box door in the bed to about 10 inches wide.
Nice truck. I would probably paint it, but the scars are kind of cool too.
I like honest trucks.

Threads like this are the reason why so many guys have taken their build threads to places like Instagram.

So what if it’s become stylish to prove that you’ve done amazing work building the trucks of your dreams?

Some of the comments here are fine. But what I can’t stand is the ones where people to justify their crap by belittling the choices of others. There are literally hundreds of thousands of these trucks out there. Despite what some of us think, these trucks will never be 69’ Z28 rare.

Build what you want. Don’t like what others build? ignore their style and build your own. The scene would be pretty damn boring if every single truck looked the same.

Beating a dead horse refers to running a topic into the ground...going on and on over something already hashed out. This thread is a whole new topic that is only related to the longbed vs shortbed or shorten long good vs shorten long bad. This topic is a young colt called leaving scars that result from the shortening and that being en vogue.

So is it just the welded seams resulting from bed shortening being considered cool or any of the other various "scars" created by welding panels? All I know is first it was patina being sun burnt faded and down through it being cool. Then even some rust holes added to that, then damaged panels being accepted, to now the scars. I'm rethinking doing any sort of restoration on my trucks. It seems before too long they'll be considered really cool just leaving them pieces of crap. What's next, puffs of smoke as you pull off? Doggone it! I just wasted that time and money on new valve guides and seals, too! :lol: I have OEM SWB bedsides for my '67 project. I'm thinking to run welds on the sides so I can be in. I hope the frame scars don't come into fashion. I'll be out of the running with my factory SWB chassis I traveled a long way to get

About the long bed guys who come out of the woodwork to announce that a sheet of plywood doesn't fit a short bed with tailgate up, I don't think there is anyone here that hasn't figured that out. I've had guys saying that type of comment all my life when I bring up one of my short beds. "Those things can't haul squat", etc. That's when I tell them, "That's why I have always owned at least one 8-lugger. You see, I'm such a truck kinda guy that a short bed is my car. A car that can haul almost as much as my long bed". Another good one is "Makes you wonder why GM has been building them since day 1"
