68 c10 disc brake conversion using 71 c10
 
i found a guy parting out a 71 c10 with disc brake front and rear end still there. i wanna convert my 68 to disc brakes, ive been reading up on it and some people are saying to go with 73 rather than 71-72 due to harder to find parts. will it all just be basic bolt on or will there be welding and cutting involved, anyone that has done a conversion like im lookin for any info and suggestions on this project,, also is the 71 worth it or should i be looking for a 73 on up?

I went with 72 for my 68 but 73-up will be just as much work, no more no less. you need to grab the entire front crossmember, and the booster/master cylinder setup. Also, if I were you I wouldn't buy anything that old in the rust belt! Do some craigslist searching and find some southern stuff.

If you go the 73+ route you don't have to pull the entire crossmember. A lot of guys do because it's all there and you also gain the newer style mounts. I used my factory crossmember and control arms, too, and swapped everything else over from the donor vehicle. Here is an excellent thread that member lolife99 was kind enough to put together that will tell you all you could ever hope to know regarding disc brake swaps.

To answer the 73+ question, I think the benefit her is the A-arm bushing is a better design doesn't need greasing? Or so I remember hearing. 73+ is probably cheaper for replacement parts. But I wouldn't necessarily say that the 71-72 parts are harder to find.

Either way, the amount of work to do the swap should be the say no matter which parts you use.

I did the same disc brake conversion, I got 73 spindles and keep my same control arms. Installed rotors, calipers for a 73, and purchased new tie rods.
That was it.
