Idea on spare tire location
5 Attachment(s)
I've been debating to where to put a spare tire. I have already moved the fuel tank to the rear, so that's out. Considered the fender cutout. So I have located a small donut spare with a dual pattern 4 3/4 and 5. Not sure what it orginally came off of, but it will work. Also purchased a Model A fender tub and hear is what I'm thinking! See pics below: Has anyone else done this? I hope I'm not the first!

Re: Idea on spare tire location
I've never seen it done but I like the concept. Convenient and discreet, and makes a lot of sense being close to the tailgate for removal. I had my spare tethered to a Chevelle bracket in the right front corner of my bed (laying flat) for a number of years, but since my truck stays mostly local, several years ago I ditched the spare and just carry a can of inflataspare in the glove box now.
Your idea is so cool it could start a trend. |
Re: Idea on spare tire location
I've seen something similar on fleet side beds. Guys take a wheel well and invert it infront of the stock one. Accomplishes the same thing, and a bracket can be made to secure it to prevent loss/theft. It also keeps the wheel below the bed level IIRC or very close to it

I was gonna do mine like this where you can use a full size tire/rim and its mounted between the wheel and tail gate, just havent found a extra wheel well, but i havent looked to hard

Re: Idea on spare tire location
Don't forget to put in some drain holes if you do that.

Nice idea! It stays below the bed rails..

Re: Idea on spare tire location
How tall is the tire?
|
Re: Idea on spare tire location
I believe the overall diameter is 23" and 5" wide. The size is T125 80D16.
I will start working on the tub flange this weekend. |
Re: Idea on spare tire location
That is a cool idea.
