How much does my suburban weigh?

Anybody know how much my suburban approximately weighs?

1969 Chevy Sub, 3/4 ton, 2wd, 396, auto, ps, pb, and ac, three rows of seats.

Just curious.

Thanks. That's amazing, they are pretty close to a new suburban then.

With all the gas prices going out of this world I have been thinking about transplanting a 5.3L/4l60e in it.

New subs claim they are getting 20 mpg. My wifes 02 was rated at 17 mpg.

Anybody know what the difference is? Programming? Rear gear?

We have an 03 and it will get almost 20 mpg on the hwy (93 octane and hypertech tuner). Are you sure about the weight of your suburban, I was thinking it was close to 6K? I'm putting a 06 5.3/4L6E in my 69 Burb. I hope it gets close to the same mileage. I think the new Suburbans are rated higher because of the DOD (displacement on demand).

Rob,

I have no idea about the weight on the 69. When I looked up the curb weight on the 02 it told me it was around 5200 lbs (sound right?).

As far the better gas mileage and the D.O.D. Is that just programming? Can my 02 be upgraded?

Any thoughts about what rear end ratio/tire size you will run on your 69 after you put in the 5.3/4l6e?

Thanks,
Greg

Re: How much does my suburban weigh?

My '03 Z71 Suburban has 3.73's with 265/70R17's (about 31"). I'd think either 3.42's or 3.73's would work well with 29-30" tires....I'd lean more to the 3.42's for mileage.

One other thing to consider is if the 5.3 is flex-fuel compatible. We're running E85 in our '03, and it's $2.83/gallon right now. Mileage drops, but not as much as the price of gas making it worth it.

I don't think you can upgrade to DOD, I believe there is some differences in the design. I've got 3.73's and I'll be running a 30" tire. Here's some info on the weight:

EDIT: GAVW 7200 lbs, curb weith 5600 lbs.

Not sure on the curb weight being 7200 lbs, I think the GVW is 7200, the curb weight is more like 5560 lbs according to that.

I was thinking of a 3.08 rear gear with a 30-31 inch tall tire.

You'll be lugging the motor with that gear. I wouldn't go any lower than 3.42. The 3.73s with a 30" tire will put you at about 2200 RPM at around 75mph.

EDIT: Just reread article and noticed the comma, 5560 it is......:D
