I Googled! Man,if you Google early race car haulers you will find quite a few,but if you click next to some of the pictures it will take you where the picture was posted. I ended up on this site with a 37 page thread on old race hauler pics! GM,Ford,Dodge...bigtime/smalltime racers. It was yellowbullet.com (They sure have a stupid motto...you'll see)
http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...aulers&page=37

Also, most pictures in Google will take you to a thread on Jalopy Journal.

If that thing pulled up behind me I would think it was going to steal my soul then my car.

One of the best looking big trucks I've ever seen.

That black C/40 is fantastic! That music cracked me up...how fitting?...NOT! I dunno about the visor, though, unless you're a serious humpback. Style is cool when it's functional but I like to see where I'm going.

Tanman,I dig that rig!

I'll take this black dovetail over that slammed rollback any day. It's plenty low enough for me. I like a truck like these to "look" like it can haul.

Mike Burkhart was about 200 lbs overweight and hired drivers to run his cars. I knew him in the late 70s when he owned Auxillary Gas Tanks (a 4X4 shop) on the North side of Dallas/Farmers Branch where I spent alot of summer job money. I remember a black hauler parked at the shop and my boss at Dallas West Four Wheel Drive had a 67 or 8 crew cab hauler with a road race Corvette on it. Burkharts last driver was paralized in a 1/4 mile crash and worked behind a desk in the show room. Brought back alot of memories, thanks for the pics.

Farmall, thank you for sharing that little piece of history. I tell you,I get a great feeling seeing anything from the 60s-early 70s. I think that is something that adds to me love of these trucks...they were smack dab in the middle of the greatest era. But,boy, drag racing (and really all motorsports) hit a pinnacle at this time, just before it went so big time and homogenized that I really don't care for it any more (except small time local action).

Yes Spec K drag racing was big in Dallas. Burkhart hired alot of big name drivers and I worked next door to Raymond Beadles shop in their hayday. You wouldent believe the promo and apparel goodies they gave me. Still have them.

I had my eye on one of the long flat bed tow trucks from Riverside Race way In Calif The one that have a major slant to them to me are very unsafe. The more level and straight one's are more desired and way more easyer to load.I pretty sure they where the 15 or 16 foot beds with diamond plate

If you look back through this thread you'll see alot of slant back transporters from back in the day, very safe when you chain everything down and nothing easier than pulling down your ramps and hooking up a winch. The ramps also allowed easy access to the under side of the race cars. This wedge design was not only safe and practical but it gave you room for spare parts stowage, generators, water tanks, etc. I love mine and apparently so did a lot of racers and mechanics.
