Mystery with tilt column...
Recently I bought a used tilt steering column from a '79 or 80 GMC Jimmy. I installed this into my son's 81 Chevrolet C10 Frankentruck. Then I noticed something strange. The steering wheel is now upside down and will not fit on it any other way. I thought that the steering columns were all pretty much the same. Is there a reason for this? Was I supposed to have a different center rod for the steering column?

Re: Mystery with tilt column...
what if you seperate the shaft from the box, or one of the joints and rotate 180 degrees

The easiest place to rotate it could be right here in the picture below.
If your intermediate shaft has this setup. There is a snap ring that you can take out. There are 2 plastic square blocks that act as a u joint. You can rotate it here also the best I remember. Attachment 2328539 |
