I think you will be trimming the inner fenders more to clear the suspension than the engine.

Mine (TCI chassis, 6.0 LQ4 motor) did not need any trimming except around the control arm mounts and for the A/C compressor mounted high on the pass side. The power steering fit tight for the return line but a little adjustment of the lines and it cleared.

Got some work done today. Got the body mounted the shackles were a pain to drill out since the frame has 7/16 now which should be stronger, the steering column and and shaft in, and the brake pedal Noyes I gotta hear the running boards on and send it to Sanderson for the exhaust system.

What do you mean your frame is 2 inches to short? I went back and read your thread and you purchased a TCI frame. On which end is it short?

It's behind the relative bearing grease port, near the coaxial stabulator.

The back end. Before I had my cab on my bed lined up with the holes perfectly. Now that I have the cab on, I cant put the bed on, as the 2 touch, and I still have about an 1.5 in gap between where the bed holes are, and where the holes on the frame are.

Oh man that sucks. So you mean the cab mounts fine by itself, and the bed mounts fine by itself. But they both cant be mounted at the same time because they touch?

I like your build. Do you have any pictures of your exhaust between the header and the tips? I want to do like you and put my exhaust in the running board and assume the tip will have to be rigid mounted. Did you use a flex pipe or something someplace?

Also, What steering column is that? I am preparing to order one myself and wanted to use the stock mount like you did. Your column length looks perfect too.

Correct, Im going to try and remount it this week, maybe I was doing something wrong, but for an hour I was trying to get things lined up with a neighbor.

Hmm thats interesting. I assumed that as you rev the engine and the exhaust moved it would hit the running board unless you made the tip ridgidly mounted but then with no give there I'd think the engine movement work break something in the exhaust piping. Maybe I am wrong. I like the way your set up looks.

What steering column is that?

The spacing between the cab and bed is tight on my TCI chassis, but there is just enough room. The front cab mount has some tolerance to move around, but the rear is the stock mounts and they don’t flew sideways (forward or back) so they pretty much set the position of the cab. My bed almost touches the cab when I push the bed all the way to the rear (rear mounts have that long slot the bolt goes thru) and the front hole kinda lines up but not well. I thought maybe that’s how the trucks always were? I’m camping now but could measure between mounts/holes Tuesday if that would help you?

Also - the square access holes in the frame to allow you to put a washer and nut on the front bed bolts is a PITA. My fat fingers and that tiny hole pretty much guarantee I will fill that damn frame with nuts and washers before I ever get the bed tightened down!

Looking forward to see how this sorts out. Good luck!

It's an ididit column. It came with the frame which is nice.

Good to know I think it's maxed out to the front. I'll have to recheck

Trying to figure out how I want to route my fuel line. I have it in my frame rails and then have it gromited so I'm not sure if I want to attach it to the fire wall or up the inner fender and over.

Well the truck is off to Full Circle Restoration to get the frame lengthened. Its been a long road, but hopefully it will be a fast fix. I am also thinking about have them finish my engine/trans wiring and 12 volt conversion, and plumb the gas and air lines. Hopefully it wont cost too much.

Thanks to Evan and Jay for picking the truck up and lunch on the way over. Its in Toms hands now! lol.

Now I am in the market for a lokar or lokar type shifter for my 4l65e trans. Im torn between the 16 and 23 in and the single or double bend. Anybody have any suggestions or pics. I have been searching but damn photobucket

I'm at the same point and plan to go with the the 16 inch, single bend. The decision as to black or silver is still to be determined. My truck has the non-lockable drivers door (from the outside) so until electric locks are installed, I will have to slide across the cab and exit on the passenger side to lock up. Keeping things simple in the center is a must. Oh ,and I have bucket seats which should make it really fun.

Sorry to hear this is such a pain! How much are you adding into the chassis - just the couple of inches you said it appeared to be short? Were you able to verify the chassis dimensions and what did TCI have to say about this? They must have seriously stepped on themselves to get the length wrong!

As I posted before, my TCI chassis is tight to the point that with the cab pushed as far forward as possible, I still had slight contact with the front of the bed and the back of the cab. I just (yesterday) drilled a new set of front bed mounting holes about 3/4" to the rear and I got a little separation but could also line up the rear set of holes.

I used a Flaming River column with column auto shifter and I moved my column left a few inches. I used the Lokar longer rod kit and I ended up rebending the rod (it's not too hard to bend it) into an "s" shape to clear other parts and get a straight run at the trans. Then I trimmed off whatever was left over.

Edit -
Never mind - missed that it’s a floor shift.

That's an interesting routing - very clean! Might be tough if you have a leak...

I ran my fuel line up the pass side frame with some Adco clamps and then just up the top of the trans and into the factory rail fitting. I put my Corvette filter/regulator against the frame just forward of the front bed mounting hole.

You might be able to bend the hose under the steering column and up the side of the motor/trans joint and up to your fuel rail?

PS - truck looks great!

Re: Moms wedding present 49 chevy 5 window LS 4L60e TCI frame

Scott, it was short, a few months ago I gave them the measurements and they compared it to their cad. TCI came and picked the frame up from my house as Good Guys was this weekend, then they drove it to the shop where he is going to lengthen it. Evan said it was about an 1.5 in too short, but that told Tom add more just in case so maybe he will do it 3 in. Per Tom, the beds should not even be close to touching about 1in apart. I would contact Jay. So far they are making me happy.
