Re: Wiper washer problems

i remember the early 90s trucks had a circuit board issue where solder points would come undone causing this. my truck had a similar issue and i would just smack the motor and it stopped. i know its not the proper way of fixing but i jammed a large bolt between the firewall and motor and its been that way for years with no problems.

but in other probably just needs a circuit board or entire motor assembly

That is a very easy fix. All you need to do is pull the module out of the wiper motor and it comes off very easy with 2 or 3 torx screws then it pulls straight out. There are usually 3-4 spots with solder on the board and you will notice the solder will be cracked around the pin and those are your problem spots. You just need to heat the solder up and add a little solder to the crack. Here is a video I found on youtube that looks like it shows the steps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW9iYGYDP10

In my '88 Sierra, I chased the wiper problem for years.

Instead of fixing an old problem ( take my word for it).... Buy a later model wiper motor assy. It installs exactly where the old one is.

I also had replaced the actual switch, which is in the steering column.
( FYI ) The turn signal lever/device is only an extension of the actual switch, which is inside the column. I am happy I replaced both.

Re: Wiper washer problems

Mine is a 88 as well and it had the early wiper motor in it, more square than the newer looking ones.
I ordered a circuit board for it and Wow on the price. I then found I was able to Upgrade my wiper motor to a 92 which is the newer stile and circuit board which was about 15 bucks cheaper if I remember right.
That solved my shut off problem.
