I wish to flip my tie rod to the bottom of the spindle.

I see several kids out there which are a weld-in sleeve. All of these are listed by application, and none match ours as most are for Jeep guys.

I see listings like "Dana 30 knuckle" or "fits TJ"

I measured my outer tie rod at a .788" long taper, starting at .620" and ending at .500". I see nothing matching that on the only chart of dimensions I found.

Am I missing something? Does someone offer such a sleeve which will fit? I do not want to run studs and/or heim joints here.

Found this thread digging around for the same info. Are you sure that the sleeve available for the Jeep guys/ Dana 30/ etc are in fact incorrect for our tie rod ends? I'm thinking this would be a very smart piece to produce, especially since I need them as well. Hopefully someone chimes in!

It is not the correct taper, I confirmed that. I had a friend make me one from a grade 8 3/4-16 Bolt that was an inch long, with no head, and tapped the spindle to suit. I do not have professional alignment tools, but with rudimentary measuring it looks as if bump steer is eliminated with the stock tie rod under the spindle.

VERY cool to see, thanks for responding. So you threaded the tapered insert into the spindle arm and then installed from the bottom side? Sounds very easy, once the inserts are machined that is. I would think a press in sleeve would work as well if it had a shoulder on it? Thanks again!

I think a knurl or pressfit might work but I was happier with a thread and red loctite. Installation was simple one the hole was drilled and tapped. I also didn’t want to weld to the cast iron. My friend even did it without a tapered reamer, but you could replicate this at home with a drill press and the right reamer which are available for our tapers

Now that you did this mod to move the tie rod to below the arm, how does it drive and was the bump steer actually eliminated or made worse?

It looks like you have not changed to dropped spindles, what are all the changes from the stock set up that are done to your truck?

As I said above, the bumpsteer is eliminated as far as I can measure.

My spindles are stock, but the lower control arms are moved forward and I am using taller lower ball joints.

I have not driven the truck yet. There are many things left to do.
