Duramax into 72 K20?

I have the opportunity to acquire a 2015 Silverado 2500 HD with a Duramax that rolled over. I have a 72 k10 that I'm not sure what I wanted to do with. I've been thinking about the Duramax and was playing with the idea of swapping it into the k20.

I know it has been done, but did not find what the swap entails.

Anyone can guide me in the right direction?

Um send that bad boy over to me. It sounds really difficult, I will sacrifice my 67 C20 and see how hard it is....

Kidding aside, I've wanted to do this myself, and you're right, there's not too many details out there. I've seen some swaps that they used the donor frame, but my personal opinion is it just doesn't look right. I see you're here in UT, where about?

That is definitely beautiful country there. If you ever get up around SLC/Ogden area, give me a yell.

And if you jump on this install, please take lots of pics, and try to document what you can to post up.

Hell yea. I’m in to see this happen. I just got a ‘17 3500 l5p for a company truck... when in miles out in 2-3 years I’m thinking about buying it so I can swap it into one of my old hunks of iron. I’m sure you’ll want to delete it.

Will do. All the parts seem to be in your neck of the woods.

The "Diesel Brothers" on Discovery Channel did this on a 69 ( Not sure if it was a DuraMax but it was Diesel ). Season 3 Episode 5 entitled Wham Bam C10 Slam. The show premiered on 10/3/2017. A quick look online didn't net any pics or video though so you guys will have to just imagine what it looks like LOL!

In 2003 l bought a rolled 02 dodge with a cummins. l pulled off the dodge body, cut the frame to get the 127" WB, then made new body mounts & installed my C10 body on it- has been my DD for 14 years now

After changing a front seal on a duramax. I would find a Cummins.
Heck maybe easier to swap than change that front seal.

Someone told me that it would be the best and easier to put the 72 body on the 2500 chassis he did it with his father's 72 blazer and I must say that this thing in pretty sweet!

The only way I would go the body swap route on a late mode gm frame was if it got a solid axle swap at the same time. I’m not an overly huge fan of the ifs.

Absolutely HATE the late model frames under these trucks jmo. If you are on facebook message Brandon Vankirk. He has built 2 duramax trucks with stock frames (one is a CREW CAB) Totally bada$$ rigs. Pretty sure you just need to fab up your own engine crossmember to drop it in to the stock frame.
