40/20/40 upgrade seat

does anyone have the 04 40/20/40 silverado seat in a 64-66 c10? i have a local junk yard that happens to have my old 04 silverado extended cab with the seat still. i need a new seat for my 66 and these seats are still in good condition. what is needed to make these work? do they sit to tall?

My only complaint is you have to scoot them too fast forward to get the seat back at a comfortable angle. I'm 6'1" so a shorter person may not even notice. I just set them in place, marked the holes and drilled them. Bolted them down with the biggest washers I could find. Going to drill some steel plate to install under the floor where it bolts up for extra strength.

I am 5'5" in tall shoes so hopefully it will be a little better in my cab. I am also hoping to keep the cup holder with a T5 shifter on the floor.

You shouldn't have a problem then, I'll pull my carpet back and see how the cup holder looks in relation to the original floor shifter. I had an sm420, upgraded to a 4l60e. Love it!

If the T5 shifter is in the same location, roughly, as the factory shifter, you're fine. I have the same seats and when I still had the factory 4-speed it cleared just fine. When I went to a TKO500, the shifter moved back several inches and I lost the clearance.

Granted I have a newer jump seat that has the cup holders on top, but there was plenty of room in front of it for one of those little universal floor consoles in front of it and the shifter cleared just fine.

I don't recall the year, but it was close around a 2004 that I used. They fit great--look like oem-- and only drawback is they don't slide back quite far enough, & I'm only 5'7". However they are staying!

Fuel tank does not interfere, but rear glass & just under it do if I use my headrests. Love the built-in shoulder harness: wife might not ride with me otherwise; thank goodness my girl friend never mentioned them!

Keep in mind if you change st.column and/or st. wheel, you should get a st. wheel that has as shallow a dish as possible[and not too big as long as you have power steering] to avoid clash between st. wheel and front of seat. If you change column, install it more forward if you can to give extra clearance. You can always adjust brake pedal a bit forward to get more reach down there--after all, 67 and newer[we see more 79-87 now:waah: w/power brakes] had the brake pedal closer to floorboard than clutch pedal--look at some of them some time:wider and lower.

Seat width and height appear factory. Installation was a breeze--much like what pontiacgurudan described. And v-e-r-y comfy!!! A home-made carpet covered plywood console is on the to-do-list.

HTH, Sam

Re: 40/20/40 upgrade seat

My impression is that it is a little lower than the stock seat and taking the tank out will gain about another inch rearward, but not being tall I didn't really need to do that. Built in 3 point belt is nice and riding in it is way more comfortable. You won't feel so beat up after only a couple hours of driving.

The brand new silverados have 402040 seats. They feel low in the truck. I think if they mount decent they would be a great option. Has anybody seen this style in our trucks?

The seats are low. There is a seller on ebay who used to sell a set of spacers he made to raise these seats up. Seems like an 1 1/2" but may not be that much. Cant find him now

My center seat is out of a 14, which I believe is the same as what you are talking about. It's maybe an inch lower than my 02 driver and passenger seats when they are moved all the way up. I'm unsure if that jump seat I have is an indication of the newer seats when they are moved all the way down, all the way up or somewhere in between. Maybe somebody who has a newer truck can pitch in on that.

Also removing the in cab tank will have zero effect with these seats. It is the lip above the tank that is the limiting factor, not the tank itself.
I had these seats when I had the in cab tank and have since switched to an under bed tank. I can say for sure, and much to my disappointment as I am 6'3", it makes absolutely no difference.

Re: 40/20/40 upgrade seat

I know they have hooks on the front of the tracks and they bolt in the back. I think you could cut the hooks off and weld a plate so they can be bolted down. The seat backs are thin too, so they should gove extra room vs a thicker seat. I would like to see some installed.

Some 18 pages of seats used on our trucks: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=388153
Found it in the FAQ section under "seats" http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=646002

Re: 40/20/40 upgrade seat

Well I picked up a pair of seats today.. I'm not exactly skinny but my belly hits the steering wheel. I know there is a mod to shorten the steering column 3 inches but not sure if that would be enough to make it comfortable.

Is there a way to make these seats flip forward, for use in a Suburban?
I'm talking a factory application. Fabrication can be done with the passenger side seat mount, just looking to see if the factory already handled that.

Hello,
Does anyone know where the mod to shorten the steering column 3 inches can be found?
Thanks in advance.

Don't know on the steering wheel mod.

But I keep seeing folks mentioning needing large washers. I got a set of these when I put my seat belts in a while back. If I do a new bench, will likely pony up for these there too.

Yes a bit pricey and may be a bit of overkill depending on your use case.

Those big square galvanized electrical washers would work OK too.
