3 speed Manual with overdrive.

I am going to search but I was wondering if anyone knew how to hook up the solenoids of maybe you know of some good info on the net. I have 3 of these transmissions right now sitting in my garage. I want to put one in my original truck as my tranny is about to blow up.

This how I have mine setup and I love the way it works.

How does your 'kickdown' work?

I just shift down to second with the overdrive still active. I only need to use overdrive when on highway when going 60 or faster.

Since you only need a 4 Pin relay - how about using one of these? A 4 pin relay with a built in 30 Amp Fuse. A fused Hot and relay in one neat package. I bought mine of eBay. If I remember correctly they were only a couple of bucks apiece and they came with a pigtail.

Interesting... Here I thought you might be asking about the Borg-Warner 3sp OD so common for the era. The device you show in the pictures is of a much newer vintage. As to the Borg Warner, I too have several and I also love them. Over 28 MPG with an old school V8 is nothing to sneeze at.

WOW people that 'have' the old BW OD??/ i've been looking for a good one for my 58. Anybody have a decent one for sale please PM me.. We lost sun gear in the OD in the truck my dad built in the 70's (250 six with 3spd and BW OD) It's been sitting for a couple of years because we cant find a 'good' OD unit for it.

Mary, check with the Studebaker supply people.
One place I would recommend is:
Studebakers West
335A Convention Way
Redwood City, CA 94063
(650) 366-8787

Another is Studebaker International
http://studebaker-intl.com/images/im...e_piece_01.gif

either or both might have the sun gear you are looking for.
