Here is a picture posted by member TBONE1964 of the fitting on the back of the gauge. You can see the threads on the inside for the sleeve nut.

Yep, when you tighten it down the end of the nut pinches down on the tubing locking it in and sealing it up.

So the threads on the outside of the gauge fitting are not used?

Nope, they are just for mounting the gauge in the tin. A nut screws on it. I don't think there is any fitting that will fit those outside threads.
