Welcome to the forum :D

I am not aware of any other engine mounts that will fit correctly without spacers on top of the frame, aside from the factory '67-'72 small block mounts. That is unless you can find a set of original '60-'62 V8, auto trans engine mounts. Those are difficult to find and $$$$$ when you do.

sound like I will need to make my own. don't the factory 283 motor mounts mount at the front of the motor?

Hi & welcome.

I don't know that I can answer your question here, but based on my own experience maybe I can give a couple of pointers.

I bought a project, 64 body on a 61 chassis. All parts in boxes in the back.

Learned the hard way that there is a big difference between the 60-62 and later chassis. Sadly parts availability for the early, torsion bar chassis is limited. The big difference is that the frame rails are wider apart on the earlier frame.

On my rig a prior owner grabbed a bunch of parts off a later truck chassis including the entire front suspension with coils & five lug disc brakes. Also rear axles, etc. This was a good set up and easy to modify.

Hope that all helps as I learned the hard way!

Scottie

Why not just use the '67-'72 small block engine mounts and brackets? In the '60-'62's with a small block and a manual trans, the engine mount was a horseshoe style mount at the front. If the truck had an auto trans (powerglide) the engine had side mounts. All 283 blocks from '57 (?) to '67 had side mount provisions

The '60-'62's had the torsion bar front suspension and the X-member frame. 1963 was the first year of the better (IMO) frame with coil springs all around

You're right, I had the year off by one and now edited. Although I'm not sure the better/worse discussion leads too far...BUT.....In terms of the better starting place given coil front end and parts availability I completely agree 63-66 is a much better call. I did read somewhere that the later chassis was less rigid. That's FWW! It might be a useful point for a 4x4. Scottie.

yeah but I really want to keep the torsion bar suspension (because it is only those 3 years) gonna check out the 67 to 72 mounts and see where they leads me.
