Intake Manifold Oil Leak
I have oil pooling on both sides of my manifold between the carb and valve covers. The oil is not escaping from the top of the valve covers. Is it possible this oil is escaping from the 2 manifold bolts? I tried to snug the bolts with a wrench but the carb makes wrench access a challenge. Thank you

Re: Intake Manifold Oil Leak
The threads on those bolts are Thru holes.
You can try put the silicone in the link below, on the threads of the 4 bolts. Pull them out one at a time and clean and coat them with silicone. If that don't work then it's intake gasket time. Link: https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-8187...0002UEOPA?th=1 |
Re: Intake Manifold Oil Leak
Also make sure your PCV valve and air filter are working. A malfunctioning PCV system can cause pressure buildup in the crankcase and might lead to oil coming out where it normally won't.
Sometimes those bolts can be tightened with thin wall sockets and a u-joint. But 2nd the idea of some kind of sealant first. |
Re: Intake Manifold Oil Leak
Removed manifold bolts, cleaned and applied copper Permatex. FYI- challenging to do this with carb in the way, much less torque them to spec…..
Question- I just removed the AC bracket that comes off the manifold. Couldn’t help but notice both bolts were dripping w oil. Dipped a q-tip in the bolt holes and there was lots of oil in them. 1) are these AC mounting bracket holes going all the way into the manifold? 2) assuming I’m safe applying permatex to these bolts as well? Thank you |
Re: Intake Manifold Oil Leak
Yes, those bolts are supposed to be sealed. I think Permatex #2 works much better than silicone in this application.

Re: Intake Manifold Oil Leak
Bolts like the ones in the links will give you better access and you can tighten those easier.
These are just for Example. Most of these are short and are only used without brackets. Just make sure you order some that with be long enough for your Brackets Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/36333811508...2057b23e693429 Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/11598377356...f8bf59c61bd5fe |
