Front cab mounts

1 Attachment(s)
I could really use some insight on these bolts, and I really hope that this isn’t operator error. I’m trying to remove the cab on my 68 and everything is ready to go except for the front cab mount bolts. I assume they’re carriage bolts as I don’t see any obvious way to reach the top of the bolts and wouldn’t you know it, the nuts just spin on both sides. I’m going to give it a shot with an impact tomorrow, but before I do, has anyone else had this problem? I have to replace the cab floor, so if I cut these bolts, can I replace them with the new floor? I’m sure this is an amateur question but I don’t want to create more work for myself.

Re: Front cab mounts

They should be hex head bolts accessible under the carpet/mat. At least they are on my '69 3/4 ton.

I didn’t look under the mats, thanks a bunch, you saved me a lot of trouble.

I honestly didn’t even think to check there. That would require pulling everything just to change one bolt which doesn’t make sense to me but oh well, at least it’ll get done now. Thank you!

Re: Front cab mounts

If I'm not mistaken those bolts are spot welded from the factory to the floor pan on the inside of the cab.

On my 70 3/4 ton, mine were not welded. If they are, it is just usually a spot weld to keep the bolt from turning. Grind the weld off and your home free.

Re: Front cab mounts

Just replaced my cab mounts on my 67 C20 about a month ago. I had to put a socket and long handled ratchet on the top to hold the bolt in place (door open) with one hand while cranking on the nut underneath with a second socket and long handled ratchet (sitting on the floor of my garage). Reverse process with the replacement bolts and bushings to tighten.

If somebody's been there before you, those welds are likely already long gone!

Re: Front cab mounts

They weren't all tack welded seems it was an assembly plant item some were some weren't . My concern would be replacing the floor is a huge project compared to removing a cab bolt ,Are you set up for removing the cab and all the work involved ? :chevy:
