ya...i would love a massive garage but im thinking i can only get a 20x30 because of neighborhood association. i have to stay so many feet from fence and property lines and all off a certain area of my property where there is underground water mains....so i think i am going to be stuck with 20x30 or a 20x28

Bigger is better when it comes to the shop, but I had to settle for what I could afford. 30X36 with 10' walls, 9X18 overhead door, vaulted ceiling over the lift. List of things I did right. In floor radiant heat, vaulted ceiling over lift. 220V recept. next to overhead door opening (3 total). 110V recept. every 8' around walls. installed compressor away from shop (in attached garage) to keep noise out of shop. Things I wish i did.. add floor heat to cement pad in front of overhead door (with valve to turn off) to melt snow. 220V recept. for A/C. more outside lights on side of shop (outside) where I store junk.

I agree with everone else. Build it as big as you are able. Here's mine. 120x120. Plans after the truck is done: 2600 sq ft apartment, 26x36 air conditioned shop, paint booth, sanding booth, 2 post lift and paint the interior and floor white.

My built in the 30's one car garage takes less space and has far less usable space than the travel trailer in the corner of that hanger.

My shop is 24x40 and it already is to small. Build it at least 30x40, preferably 40x40 if you have the room on your property. Here are a few interior pics of mine from last year. I'm sorry i don't have any shots of the outside.

jetwrench your garage is a monster...almost like an LS7 engine laughing at a 3cylinder geo metro....does look sweet and plenty of space...but i dont have half of that space....im going to be going with a 20x30 most likely....all i have room for since i cant build on top of some city easements underground

We just built a 32x48. It is not even finished and already have plans to build another 28x28 in addition to the 28x28 thats on the house. So all in all, that's 88x104. Hopefully that will cut it. It doesn't help when the chevelle's torn down, the shortbox 4x4 is going in for a transmission change, and my 72 shorty has to be restored in 3 weeks. It will be a large mess in that 32x48, but it will be awesome having the room, the heater, and the air compressor again. Just a word of advice, if you ever plan on running a full size air compressor or anything of that magnitude, do it right the first time and put in the proper wiring, etc. Also, if you can, I would go with 10' walls as they make for a nice little attic to store spare parts, etc. I will get some pics when I'm home next time.

I do have to say that 24'x24' is almost the minimum if you want to have some room to spread out, 30'x30' is a really nice size so you can work and have some room to spare. I wish I could fit a 30x30 on my city lot, but a 24x24 is almost too big. I am stuck for now as my current small garage is grandfathered in and I could barely put a shed up with the new ordinances with setback and such in my city!!!

I use a 20'x50' space in a 75'x 40' shop and about 90% of that space is filled with all my extra parts and my truck...

I have 2300 sq ft and live in 500 sq ft of it. It could easliy be twice as big and not work!!!!!

The tiles are Armstrong VCT commercial tiles, the same thing used in grocery stores and department stores. I bought them at Home Depot on sale.

Im still putting along with my new garage (dragging my feet on the insulation and drywall). Its 18 x 28. Its the absolute largest garage I can have on my lot with all the zoning rules. Would I love to have a larger space...of course. I can fit one project in there at at time with room to work on all four sides of it. Just keep your space organized and a person can easily work in the "smaller" places like mine.

If I had a giant garage, the way I am I would just cram it full of crap anyway and in the end still have the same amount of space to work around my truck lol.

I am lucky though because my father in law lets me keep all my big stuff (junk) stored out on the farm. But that pile is really starting to dwindle down.

Well mine was a garage before I changed it into a workout/playroom/rec room:lol:. I put rubber mats on the floor so the kids won't hurt themselves and also make it warmer. I still have to put the cable in and TV, and also insulate the ceiling. Its 24x27. Luckily I have my other shop which is 36x52 to store my trucks and parts. Randy
