'02 chevy 1500 4x4 tranny went out, no reverse or TC lockup, how much $ to fix?

2002 chevy 1500 4x4, its the small V8 motor...4.3???, auto trans, 90k original miles. Backing up a steep driveway tires started to spin so put it in 4H proceded to back up and heard a loud bang. Reverse quit working. Also TC lockup seems to have quit as 55mph RPM was around 2000 and normally its1800 or less. Fluid was just a little below the cross marks on the dipstick, still appears red and doesn't smell burnt.

A few questions, what transmission is in the truck, are they still using the 4l60E?

Is this a common problem?

Whats the going rate to rebuid if I remove tranny?

Any tips, hints or tricks to taking it out? Glancing at it toughest part of the job looks like it will be the upper bell housing bolts and maybe the tranny cooler lines, and figure out how the t-case shifting linkage works, its got the manual shifter on the floor.

Sounds like a broke sunshell...No 2nd, 4th, or Reverse.

No reverse means trans rebuild EVERYTIME.
