The 69

I bought a 1969 short bed a few years back and now i should have some time and money to finally work on it. I plan on doing the suspinsion and drivetrain this winter and go from there. Right now it has a 454 with a 700r4 and I want to get rid of it and go with the newer 5.3 or something along those lines. Ive already got most of my Suspinsion stuff from porterbuilt both front and rear now I just need to install it..

I know.. It's tempting.. Porterbuilt keeps coming out with new products that are hard to pass up.. Once Summer is over i'll get it started.

Once summer is over ? I'd knock out the suspension now, keep the big block in it and rock it for the rest of the summer. Then do the LS motor in the winter. I find that when you make your projects a series of small projects instead of one big one they seem a little more obtainable but that just my .02

The 700r4 went out and I also want to run power steering after asking you about your manual setup. What all would I need to get a power steering pump on the big block?

I'm just giving you a hard time. Don't change your mind based on my opinion alone. Do what you want to do. To do power steering you will need a power rack, line kit for the rack with rack fittings, and a pump, resivore, pulleys and brackets for a big block depending on which water pump you have, short or long. It may require some research to find which combination you need. You could go stock or aftermarket depending on what you want to get into or what you want to spend. I got lucky my truck already had power steering on it so I have everything I need when I switch it back over.

looks and sounds like a cool project!

Re: The 69

Couldn't just change it to power steering gear box and add a pump? I know that sounds easier than done, but there should be some parts around to get it done.

Getting rid of the big block has been a back and forth battle for me. Im ready to get the truck back on the road, but while its down I would like to make it easier to drive. Its hard to pass up the 5.3's.. They have low mileage motor and trans for 1800 bucks in the salvage yards..

Im thinking about saleing the 454 and 700r4. The motor runs great with a small cam,new holley double pumper 850 and new hei stuff from msd. The 700r4 lost 3rd and 4th. Im wanting to sale it complete from carb to oil pan. I just droped 800 bucks in the carb and hei stuff. The carb has 5 miles on it maybe 50 on the hei stuff. Whats a good price for something like this?

Re: The 69

It sucks you dropped all that cash in the new parts, you know your lucky if you get half of what you gave for them. With that said, I'm not sure what these are going for? good luck with the sale.

Drive it as is while you are gathering parts for a 5.3 swap...

Re: The 69

great looking project, if your going to sell the big block deffinently leave it in the truck and post it for sell, most people won't even consider buying an engine they can't hear run. If it runs well and doesn't smoke or use oil it would bring $1500 to $2000 around here.
