68 GMC suburban 4x4 50th anniversary

5 Attachment(s)
I just bought this truck.... I am not sure what I want to do with it yet but I couldn't pass it up.

I didn't think they had a GMC 50th anniversary but it has the "special paint" code.

I think the orignal 327 was swapped out for a newer 350 at one point. 4speed, rockwell tcase, nothing really wrong with it. only rust is a little bit in the rear 1/4s small dent on drivers front fender and the one pictured in the rear 1/4

It came with the protecto plate, and original option sheet.

welcome back to the game man! That looks like a fairly clean 'ole burb there.
Bummer is, there are no figures for GMC trucks in the production numbers.
Also, it ain't a 50th either. GMC started sellin trucks in 1903, verses chevy's 1918.... so that would be a 65th annv...not that it was celibrated.
What options you got on it... and whats the inside look like?

It says about 4200 68 comparable chevys where made so I assume there was about 3-5 chevys for every Gmc?

I didn't think it was technically a 50th but it is the same colors and it had a special paint option.

I'll check the options out tomorrow. I have it at my moms ranch right now.

The interior is real clean, it had a cover over the dash pad so the original dash pad is still in perfect shape. Front seat cover needs to be redone but thats expected other than that it is clean. I'll get a bunch of pictures with my camera tomorrow not my damn cell phone.

Thanks man I'll be back around more now. Time to start looking for parts. I hate those closed knuckle front ends.

Yea it is pretty clean I am not sure exactly what I want to do with it. I thought about reselling it on ebay or something. As I only paid 1500 so I figure its worth double that.

I just bought a 74 gmc Jimmy two weeks ago which I might sell instead. Or keep both I don't know.

I figure if I keep it 5" lift with 35s I have a set of 3/4 dana 44 and 14bff I will put on either the jimmy or the burb. I also have a 4x4 700r4 from a parts truck which I think would be nice in the burb mated to a brand new 350 I have.

$1500 for a Burb that solid?

I couldn't believe it either. I HAD to buy it. I thought it was going to be about 4,000 when I pulled up to it.

With the way gas prices are there are some damn good deals out here right now.

Re: 68 GMC suburban 4x4 50th anniversary

Well, in our end of the US $1500 is about right. I sold a nice original 2wd for $2k and I got a free 68 4X4 Burb for free all complete and original. That being said, those are gone and I'd like another, so if you decide to sell I might be interested. I want to do a cummins 12v install in a sweet 4X4 burb to replace the 05 Yukon XL I rolled a few years back. I want the new drivetrain, interior and comfort with the looks of the old. If it doesn't upset any one too bad, it would be a Chebby not a 4 eye, but that is just me.

Sweet purchase - you wouldn't find one around here in that good of shape for anywhere near that price. Heck, you hardly can find a Burb around here period. Last one I saw was a complete piece of junk it was soo badly rusted.

But I do know where there is a panel in this town just haven't decided if I need to save it or somone else does

It is all about the location, man if I could beam my stuff to the east coast I could make some bank, but here in the West these are fairly plentiful. Not all AZ/Cali stuff is rust free or in this shape, but it is way more likely here than anywhere else. This thing is a reminder, that I wish hadn't parted with my 68 Chevy, it was the same color with no white, original 327 with original miles, cause when I pulled it out it still had the GM bearings in it! The dude hacked off his ole lady (methhead) left and stole some of her stuff to support his habit, I stopped and she said take it!! I was like what? She explained and I said well I'll pay you for your trouble, I am not the kind of person to take advantage, but I basically drug it home for nada. I see some nice original trucks, Blazers and Subs around here. I just saw a nice ochre 3/4 ton 72 chevy the other day. A bit more rust than this one has, but nothing like back east, rear air, not for sale. That is why I usually encourage members to fly out and get one as opposed to replacing the body on some of these things. With the price of fuel and plane ticket + purchase price it is still cheaper to do than to replace every panel on one. More up front but a savings in the end. Man, the more I type the more I want that thing!!

I live right near the coast so a lot of them are pretty rusted out. This one was more inland. Dry air. They are usually more expensive here. 67-72s where real popular for awhile. But gas prices are really driving the prices down I think. Everyone is buying Prisus's. I tell them buying an old truck is more environmentally friendly than a new hybrid. Its recycling cars not restoring them

You are dead on go pay 35k for a riding mower with a top or buy a 3k decent shape driver 67-72 and all the gas you want and still be ahead of the hybrid. If you crash one of these tanks into something the odds are a lot better the truck will still keep on going.

Unless it was made in Canada, those numbers are available according
to the Canadian restoration packet people. (I have been PM'd with a
few GMC's production numbers) Either way it's a semi rare bird 4 sure.

I was always told it was around 8-10 to 1, so I would say less than 500
and then consider the paint maybe it is one of about 25? (Just a guess)

Thats what I thought it has the option for special paint..... Even if it wasn't technically GMC's 50th.
