door gaps before and after?
i have did a search on this fourm already.I guess i am looking for a more definitive answer.
my door alignment was perfect before installing rubber now it sticks out:cuss: i tried warming with hair dryer some.what is everyone using for rubbers that work? i dont mind using steele brand if i have to. lot more expensive! rubber shape: https://i.ibb.co/XXGmdwg/IMG-3441.jpg door sticking out: https://i.ibb.co/pW0Fd5V/IMG-3444.jpg |
Re: door gaps before and after?
I'm not sure but it looks like the seal is in backwards. Shouldn't the short edge go toward the inside of the cab?

mine is 1952 but I think seals are the same
I installed in orientation shown by the piece being held in fingers here Attachment 2346697 that picture is from 45 seconds in on this video by Brothers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GpF9VTghAk my seals are Precision brand from KMS tools in BC. you have to wind up and slam the door to get it fully latched. I think my plan this year is to slice off most of the larger seal edge and if that does not help rip it off and replace with some generic weather stripping. ( I have a link saved on another computer to some that a member here swore by ) |
Re: door gaps before and after?
Here is a thread from 3 years ago. Plenty of good info. Thanks for starting your own thread so you get answers that are pertinent to you and your truck rather than to what the OP on the older thread asked. https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=825409

55-59 chevrolet factory assembly manual
section 1, sheet 82. free download from the trifive site tried getting a screenshot but this crazy tablet is having issues....totally not operator error....haha if you have a 55-59 truck you really should have the free download so you can check stuff like this. put it on a thumb drive or something |

Re: door gaps before and after?
this is the generic stuff that a member on here uses with good results.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fcd-rs1031-50 I did not keep the name/post where I learned this but as I recall he recounted having used it in several builds. |
Re: door gaps before and after?
keep us posted on the steele rubber thing. I have used softseal before on an AD truck when the other aftermarket stuff was not very forgiving. a few good pics of how it is supposed to be installed would likely help a few furue installers. maybe even a new thread title that indicates the door seals as the topic.
truck is really looking good. great job. |

Re: door gaps before and after?
yeah, agreed they are possibly in backwards. it seems counterintuitive (my big word for the day) but makes sense if you really think hard and ponder on it for days. haha
they kinda work like a wedge shaped seal when in correctly. that allows the door to close further before contact which may be just what you need. as mentioned here by others, buy the best, softest seal you can to allow as much give as possible but try the ones you have, installed in reverse of whats there. keep us posted. |

Had the same problem on my 51 with the Precision brand. There are a few companies that have thickness options.
I used this from Metro Molded Parts https://metrommp.com/door_side_seal_...r_seal_lp_40a/ |
