Cars that you thought were ugly

I see a lot of older cars that I used to think were really ugly but now they look kind of cool.

For example my wife's stepfather had a Studebaker Hawk that she was embarrassed to ride in. She hated that car, it was just a weird old car.

But now she want's one.

And when I turned 16 my dad told me I could drive his old Hornet wagon, I didn't want to be seen in it.

But now, same story... I'd like to get one.

My aunt had one of these. I thought it was ugly. Now I'd snap one up in a heartbeat.

I'm just curious. What did you think was hideous, and now you would buy one?

Some things just get cooler with age.

Sorry, but Hornets are still ugly =) and that's coming from someone that likes AMC.

The other two pictured so far are ones I always liked.

No brainer for me. I liked the factory supercharger though. Neighbor had one growing up. We used to shut the garage door when we saw him coming 'cuz he would come in and talk about that god awful looking car for hours while we were working on our cars. It was always better, faster and cooler than my '64 Impala SS, brother's '64 GTO 421 convert or my Pop's 66 Galaxie 500 Convert 7 Litre.

He was a stingy blowhard too. All talk about how fast it was and would never give a ride in it.

In edit. After re reading my post, I think we never gave that poor Avanti a chance BC the owner was a tool. Sorry for offending anyone here who has one :o

Various AMC offerings. The AMX, and Rambler cars were cool though. Every 1/2 ton Ford pickup made after 1996. There are more I would like to name, but I may offend someone.

Can't argue that. They were (are) ugly. I'd still like one, maybe just to be nostalgic.

My brother smashed up a beautiful 76 Monte Carlo with roughly 60 k miles in the early 80's. Dad bought him that one.

So Dad had to pony up again and got him a rusted out hunk of a 6 cylinder LEVI'S GREMLIN.

I still laugh today.

I remember those. Levi's made the upholstery.

I'd take this one.

Any brand pickup from about 1996 and newer. With the frame sticking down under the body like they do, they all remind me of a reasonably hot girl wearing an ultra mini skirt and......granny panties!

My first car and it was ugly and looked just like this. This is the car Robert Blake drove in his TV show Beretta! I hated it but now would love to have it back.:chevy:

I bought my first wife a 1967 Impala. I got it for $400 and it never broke down once. It was a great car. We would pile all our friends in it when we went out.
And it had the biggest trunk I've ever seen.

That 327 was a great motor.

The guy I bought it from had a really scary dog. A big White German Shepard that was growling at me the whole time. I'll never forget it. I was scared $h!tless.

When I was younger, besides the Beetle, I hated all older Volkswagens. Now, I can't think of one that I wouldn't mind tooling around in.

I used to hate those old Dodge trucks ,now I would like to have one .

Re: Cars that you thought were ugly

That '66 Dodge pictured is not too attractive, but it is much Better looking than the 2nd gen Ram (94-01). I used to hate the 2nd gen trucks with a passion, but owning one made me start to like them. Unfortunately, I am yet to find a solution to the interior falling apart around me, the thing I hate most about these trucks. I was not too fond of the 3rd and 4th gen either, but the Cummins engine keeps me interested. I would not mess with a gasoline Dodge or Ram though. Unless it had a 318, and was insanely cheap.

I had a 65 Corvair 4 door hard top. Ugliest car I ever owned. I never did understand why I liked the 64 2 door convertible so much but not the 65.

I don't think anyone thought you were putting down the car.

The guy sounds like a jerk.

I think he moved next door to me.

Square body trucks. I thought they looked bloated and horrendous. But then I thought GM had lost their minds when the '67 truck body style came out too. My, how times (and my tastes) have changed!
