th700 into 292i6
Anyone try this?
I know it bolts on and that i will have to convert into 2 wire in the trans. My question is will I need a spacer for my starter or will i b able to use a v8 starter that will mount on with no problem? |
Re: th700 into 292i6
The issue will be connecting the TV cable correctly and with the correct geometry so that you don't burn up the trans. If you happen to have a 4bbl on that 292, it will be not too difficult. If you have a stock carb, it will be very difficult.
For a starter you just need the correct one for the size of flexplate you use. |
Re: th700 into 292i6
damn that does sound pretty intimidating.
no 4 barrel either. Didnt want to drop more money intho this. thanks again. Hopefully someone else can chime in and have a cool hack |
Re: th700 into 292i6
If you really want to make yourself crazy, try it with dual carbs!
I have not actually got this up and runnin' yet, but after mucho trial and error, I'm confident that I finally have it right. Re: th700 into 292i6
wow pritch thats what im talking about ha.
Im already going crazy with just one. so u too used a v8 starter that was for how many teeth ur fleplate had? |
Re: th700 into 292i6
Now that I think about it some more, I believe the 292 requires a specific flexplate since the crank has 2 dowel pins and larger 1/2" bolts. I believe there is info here in this forum about it.
Edit: Here is some more info for you. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...=292+flexplate |

Re: th700 into 292i6
My 292 is a manual [SM465]. There are 3 bolts on the starter. Two with the heads from the front, and one, higher up, from the back. All mounted in the bellhousing. All horizontal.
Engine is the original in my '68 C/10. |
Re: th700 into 292i6
I found some pictures I was looking for. This is how my stater mounts, with the 2 bolts going straight up from the bottom:
