th700 into 292i6

Anyone try this?
I know it bolts on and that i will have to convert into 2 wire in the trans.
My question is will I need a spacer for my starter or will i b able to use a v8 starter that will mount on with no problem?

The issue will be connecting the TV cable correctly and with the correct geometry so that you don't burn up the trans. If you happen to have a 4bbl on that 292, it will be not too difficult. If you have a stock carb, it will be very difficult.

For a starter you just need the correct one for the size of flexplate you use.

If you really want to make yourself crazy, try it with dual carbs!

I have not actually got this up and runnin' yet, but after mucho trial and error, I'm confident that I finally have it right. This picture would be at idle:

Now that I think about it some more, I believe the 292 requires a specific flexplate since the crank has 2 dowel pins and larger 1/2" bolts. I believe there is info here in this forum about it.

Edit: Here is some more info for you.

Actually post-'68 it's 3 dowel pins and six 1/2'' bolts. Earlier cranks can be tapped and drilled for the upgrade. But the '68 and later crank has better balance with 12 lobes.

This is true. I had no luck finding the flex plate I needed so I had to ream all the holes to 1/2" and drill the extra hole. I have a thread about it somewhere, but I can't find it just now. I needed the bigger flex plate, the 162 (?) tooth to fit my starter. I don't know if all the 292 blocks are the same, but mine has 2 starter bolt holes that are vertical. I had to get a starter shop to order a new nose to fit the block. It's been a while so I don't really remember all the reasons, it may have had something to do with using a 200r transmission. It's been frustrating because none of this stuff is meant to go together but I'm hardheaded and it's gonna work. Eventually.

My 292 is a manual [SM465]. There are 3 bolts on the starter. Two with the heads from the front, and one, higher up, from the back. All mounted in the bellhousing. All horizontal.
Engine is the original in my '68 C/10.

I found some pictures I was looking for. This is how my stater mounts, with the 2 bolts going straight up from the bottom:
