The double nickel
I reckon I better start a build thread so I'll have a place to ask all my questions. This was a Craigslist find a few months ago. I bought a 55 when I was a kid and have been wanting another one ever since. Shoutout to joedoh for the info I've received so far. Lot's of inspiration from the build threads on here.
To summarize my previous thread, I bought a kit from Matts Classic Bowtie that included Shockwaves and a 4 link set up. After installing the front shocks it was clear the previous owner installed the camaro clip higher on the frame in order to lower the truck. This caused the Ridetech stuff not to fit. I decided to take it on the chin and redo the front clip. http://i63.tinypic.com/2it3nv6.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/fnz1us.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/25fk092.jpg Original clip job.. http://i63.tinypic.com/sdgvgy.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/2gy398l.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/dg2nok.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/2a0jkmt.jpg Looking better.... http://i68.tinypic.com/20pympg.jpg 4 link done http://i67.tinypic.com/jzv0x4.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/16bmux3.jpg |

Re: The double nickel
Nice Job on the reclip! I'll bet it set pretty low the first time. I love your Truck always had a soft spot for the TF trucks.

Re: The double nickel
Got the lq9 in last week. I'm super stoked. I haven't decided if I want to keep it stock or make it go gee bloopa gee bloopa yet .
https://preview.ibb.co/dMBivv/IMG_4195.jpg I bought it sight unseen so kind of fitting of the column and steering wheel that came in the truck... https://preview.ibb.co/gGiwFv/IMG_4197.jpg Came with pedal and stand alone harness. Every wire was labeled. https://preview.ibb.co/kXjWha/IMG_4201.jpg New 4l60 https://preview.ibb.co/j7QnNa/IMG_4191.jpg |
Re: The double nickel
Subscribed. What are your plans for it?
|
Did you drive it much before you reclipped it? Did it seem too low with the stock camaro springs in it? I am aiming for a similar stance at ride height and I'm curious if I can accomplish that with cut springs or if I will need to bag mine. Did you go with the shockwaves because you wanted to lower it more or was it to have the option of raising it up from the previous ride height?

Re: The double nickel
I got these for dirt cheap last week. Does anyone know what adapters i need in order to make them fit my current wheels?

Re: The double nickel
rally caps wont fit wheels with nubs. rally caps mount inside the lug recess, nub wheels need caps that mount outside. they make 10.5" poverty caps for nub wheels, not that look like those but some nice ones. or you can buy 15" smoothie wheels from wheel vintiques and the poverty rally caps will fit them.
the two likely reasons why the rear wont lift high enough on your airbar is probably 1. shocks and 2. setting it up at ride height. for shocks, I like usuing new JK jeep take offs, they have like 9" or so of travel, the airlift kit shocks only have 4.5. for the ride height, sleeve bags will lift like 7.5" but if you arent setting the bag up to squish completely where its aired out, you will waste lift and it will ride poorly. |
Re: The double nickel
so smoothies from wheel vintiques or rallys are the only option?
|
Re: The double nickel
they are the only wheels those caps fit, yes. no one makes an adapter to put them on nub wheels.
full disclosure they will also fit wheel vintiques artillery |

At $2 each it's not like it's gonna cost you much to give it a try. http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps6rmsdkil.jpg |

Cool project, keep posting!!

Re: The double nickel
Cool truck! Are you going to use a ride height controller or go from air pressure?
|
Re: The double nickel
"i wanted a good ride and heard that regular bags didn't have that good of a ride" Actually standard bags will ride just as good as factory suspension if set up correctly and the proper size bag is used. I run 8" bags on my truck (1500 chassis) an if you didn't know I was on air ride you you couldn't tell it by ride quality. The key is proper set up, I have seen and ridden in a lot of hack jobs that rode like crap. Ride teck is a good system and easy to get a good ride but it is costly.

Re: The double nickel
Having trouble mounting the frame mount booster and m/c. Tranny crossmember is in the way. Anyone have pics of a frame mount booster with a 4l60? Preferably with the exhaust mounted but that may be asking too much.....

Re: The double nickel
