Well I guess this isn't the case anymore. Just ran across an Ebay ad for a NOS grille. Turns out, in the description they are stating it is a Van grille, and they want $500.

This is more like it, on the price:

Yeah prices on those are getting crazy! I have a couple NOS van grills myself too-some vans had options for mono-chromatic paint schemes so the NOS van ones were a flat grey color-paint to match.

Are the one from rock auto, etc. pretty close?

I've even seen some on ebay for 50 bux.

They good for driver quality? My budget doesn't allow for a 500 or even a 150 dollar grille.

thanks! Sorry to hijack D!

Yeh from LMC. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=84

I haven't seen an aftermarket grille in person, so I can't personally say. The NOS grilles that I posted links to, unless you already have all the other parts, the costs will only rise. The grille moldings are just as rare and hard to find. I have been trying to salvage grilles from the yards, in an attempt to put together a complete grille. I have completed only one, so I decided to keep it in storage in case something were to happen to the one on my truck. The bow tie was the only part that was rough, so I painted it Red. But if I ever come across a nice Gold Bowtie, I will have to put that on instead, well maybe.

My stock grill has broken mounting tabs so it flops around alot. All the other little chrome pieces are in great shape. The Chrome grille trim pieces i ordered from rock auto and they look really good and came with the flat fasteners that slide into the tracks.

I'm sure the aftermarket grilles that accept all the moldings & bowtie will be fine. So Rock Auto has the center grille molding pieces? Like these?

Great work as usual.

I really need to start adding my efforts to my build thread as well. By the time I'm done, it's too late for pics! LOL

A little trick I learned watching Overhaulin. Chip was working on a truck, the bed to the tailgate, the gaps weren't even from side to side. He used a Porta Power. So I tried it and it worked.
As you can see, the right side, the gap was narrow compared to the left side. After using the Porta Power, the gaps are even and the tailgate no longer rubs the bed.

I know what you mean. Actually a lot of these projects, I have worked on in the past. I did take some pictures, but I'm just getting around to adding them on here to My Build.

New aluminum door sills and lighted bowtie threshold plate. The lighted Bowtie looks good at night.

Your truck is one of my favorites . Keep up the good work. If the red hood comes up in the forsale section I am in need if one.

Thanks!! At the moment, another member has expressed his want for the hood. But if something happens, I will let you know.

I hope you do a build thread, I would like to see more of your truck.

Ok thanks. I would like to do a build thread if I ever get time. This was my dads truck and is now my daughters, trying to teach her about about them.

Worked on one of those small details, the ashtray. I don't smoke nor use the ashtray, but I wanted it to look nice. A NOS ashtray, 1) are hard to find 2) too much money.
So after seeing what another member did with his, I tried it on mine and an extra ashtray I had. Brushed them down with a wire brush, then cleaned with brake cleaner and then soap & water. I then sprayed them down with prep cleaner. Hit them a few times with DupliColor Stainless Steel paint.

That turned out excellent TKCR. Nice clean look on a part that most people skip over.

Thanks. One came out better than the other. One had something on it, that just wouldn't come off. That's probably were a media blaster does help. But once it's back in it's spot inside the flip tray, you really only see the very front edge of the ashtray. So I can live with the results of the before & after.

Yeh, I added a courtesy light kit from LMC. It's a set that I spliced into the one that we already have under the dash. So that added 3 total. And put LED's in all of them. So yeh, It really lights up at night. And these are the led bulbs I used, got them from O'Rilley's.

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=191

Updated with pics of the bulbs that were used. And also added the spec sheet for the bulbs that are used in our trucks. This can be used to cross reference when changing to LED's.

Also changed the dome light to an LED. First got a new dome light housing from LMC. And then used this LED bulb.

After noticing another member making some minor detail work, I never knew that the jack was mounted to the inner fender, as shown in photos #1 & #2.. I already had the jack, bracket and rod. They have just been sitting in the garage collecting dust. So I have tracked down all the other parts needed to mount the jack & accessories, as shown in photo #3.

Now for a good sanding, cleaning and a paint refresh. Photos will follow when I get it done.
