57 Chevy

Me and my grandpa picked up a 57 Chevy SWB yesterday. Dont have any pics up yet...but ill try to get some when I can. Cab corner is gone, rust won that war. Front fender needs some repair...but other then that it isnt in bad shape. Guy said it had sat near a creek and the water got up, and flooded the engine (235 with 3 speed). Radiator is full of water so his story seems believable (rather then cracked head/block...radiator would be low on water from the engine itself leaking). Engine isnt locked completely up, it will turn but has a rough spot. Rust has started at the top of one of the cylinders. We drained the watered down oil and flushed the engine with some diesel fuel. Took the plugs out and sprayed some PB in the cylinders to let them soak. Going to put new oil in and try to fire it up.

Its pretty much like its suppost to be minus a few things that has happened to alot of trucks like these....metal in the bed, dash cut a little for a radio, and aftermarket shifter in the floor. Going to try and repair the dash, put in a new floor cover and switch to colum shift and maybe put wood back in the bad later on. Picked it up for $500

We have the engine completely freed up and turning over. Needs new points, coil, plugs and wires....it isnt fireing.

you might want to change the cap and rotor as well.

Truck is fireing now, but still wont start. Pulled the fuel line off (from pump to carb) and gas isnt getting to the carb. The fuel line is clear...already checked. Going to put a pump on it and see if that fixes it....dont think its the cam bad because you can see where it has been pushing on the pump.

i have an old pump that was on my motor if you want it. pm me for details

We just took the old one off of my engine long enough to see if it would start. It still wont pump, and I know the pump works because I drove my truck around the day before we tried to use it. Going to get a pressure gauge to check and see if maybe there is a leaky hose....cant really tell with all the gunk under the truck to see what is fresh and whats not. Or at worst it could be the cam...although it is rubbing the pump so it isnt completely gone.

Your fuel lines may be clogged up and your TANK may have corrosion! Be sure to put a GOOD in line fuel filter on it or serve it gas from a clean tank source? my 2 cents worth. rico_bob

You can run a rubber hose from the pump into a 2 gallon gas can and bypass the lines and the gas tank just to see if it will fire up..

We got the fuel pump to pump. The hose in the tank kept curling up and not reaching the gas...put a metal line on it and fixed that. Needle in the carb was froze up, so we just replaced the carb with one in the barn a little while ago. Try to fire it up later on today or tomorrow.

Do some more tuning, and start on the body I suppose is the next step.
