99 K2500 Burb overload springs
 

Anyone put overload leaf or heavier springs on their 3/4 ton Suburban? I have a 99 K2500 Suburban 454 that I use primarily for towing a car trailer, when I have 5-6k pounds on it, (trailer+towed car) the truck does sag quite a bit. I'm planning to purchase a new 10k trailer in the coming months to haul more trucks home, my worry is that the Suburban, which is meant to be a luxury family hauler, does not have enough spring in the rear for that weight despite its 10k tow rating. I also have an equalizer hitch for a 10k trailer which I will employ. I don't want to go to a dually pickup as I like having the clean dry storage for all my tools and equipment.

Thoughts on my rambling?

Don’t see why you couldn’t. Pretty much a 1 ton, so put some leaves in to get it where you want it. Or maybe look at airbags...

Make sure you have the right amount of tongue weight. Too much is just as bad as not enough.

You should use a weight distribution hitch when towing more than 5,000 pounds. That hitch will pick the rear of your suburban up.

I am not familiar with an equalizer hitch.

I had my front suspension & steering replaced at a nice truck shop in Florida, a few weeks ago. I saw an interesting truck / leaf spring add-on, that seemed cool.

It's called "Active suspension" by Roadmaster. It uses a spring loaded device on the leafspring that reduces sway & supports loads , only when a load is needed.

I am still researching it, but maybe you should check it out, as I am.

It is not "cheap" but it seems it does a lot for the money.

I have a weight distributing setup i bought awhile ago, but turned out to be for a 10k trailer so I shelved it since I got a good deal on it, my Dad was a parts manager at an RV dealer and it was on clearance. Figure I'll try that out on the new trailer before messing around with add a leafs and stuff.

Why not air overload bags? I have them on mine and I really like them. Rides better so I keep a little air in mine all the time.
