72 k20 Dana 44
 

Rebuilding a Dana 44 on my 72 k20 and came across the drivers side spindle bearing having a brass washer backed up on it and the passenger side not haveing one? Is this correct or has someone worked on this prior to me owning it?

The early disc brake 44's ran a small u-joint and a brass washer, the later ones (73 & up) run a larger u-joint & a plastic one, they don't interchange because different inside diameters. I don't think the brass washers are available. You might check with Quad 4x4 (Torque King) They have some NOS stuff.

I had the same issue with some damaged parts & ended up switching axle shafts to the larger u-joints for better parts availability.

BW thanks for the info... I searched torque king and found the kit with the plastic washer but they also sell the bronze washer. The kit says it’s for 73 and up but I cross referenced the bearing that it comes with it and that’s at least the same one for my 72. So I am going to give it a try and replace the plastic washer with the bronze one

I see that bronze spacer misplaced more than correct. At least the times I have had someone else work on my stuff. First thing other than visual damage I look for when hubs won't engage. I see them put to the outside at the lockout end.
