Sunroof

Sorry if this is already a thread. The search function doesnt work on my phone.

Has anybody put a sunroof in these trucks? Non sliding or sliding.

Re: Sunroof

I have not done it, but I was thinking about building an extended cab and a sliding sunroof from a newer car might be a good idea at the same time. I would have to add to the roof in the middle and its a big flat area so any wave would show. A sliding sun roof would add structure and might be easier to bodywork.

Re: Sunroof

I would think a AD or TF has too much curve to the Roof for a Flat Sun Roof.

Not a good idea as most aftermarket units leak over time .

I wouldn't want one for mine.

Here is a truck build starting and it does have a sunroof. He is planning on replacing the roof panel to get rid of it.

Here is one in my 55 previous owner installed it. I wouldn't have put one in but it isn't to bad does help in summer with heat.

Re: Sunroof

even a rear slider can be a PITA. Sunroof leakage has damaged many vehicles and IMHO not worth the effort.

Well I can't knock a guy for thinking he would like a sunroof but when the guys said that is "so 1980's " here is mine since removed and filled in 1982.
At one time after I decided to stretch my cab I bought the complete roof with sliding sunroof off an 80 Cutlass but that is headed out in the next scrap load.
Admittedly mine was kind of cool but I don't think that it vented enough air when open to compensate for the heat that it generated inside the truck.

Still on our trucks I think they need to go with some of the other70's and 80's stuff like wheels that stuck outside the fenders and chrome side pipes.

This is a very profound statement. You modify a car or truck to look better or operate better. So many custom changes only make the owner feel better because it pulled it off. If it doesn't really make you happy because it works and looks better don't do it.

If you think it will, then cool, your truck is suppose to do that. But think about it well before you start cutting.

My cowl vent did it all! :D There is nothing that can send air through that cab more than that cowl vent!

Re: Sunroof

My cowl vent worked great, sometimes great at pulling the heat coming out of the 120 louvers right back into the truck. As you probably well know when you chop one of these trucks the windows just about get out of the ventilation equation.

I think most of us agree that the sunroof was great 80's stuff that needs to be left in the 80's. Even then most of us who had the wished we would not have put them not long after we did.

MARTINSR 02-11-2018 05:51 PM

Re: Sunroof

I'm thinking that and the pastel graphics need to stay in the 80's.
