Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Yes! There was a Chevrolet Sport and GMC Sierra GT. I have a 94 Chevrolet Sport stepside. It is black with body color bumpers, no chrome anywhere, and black grill. It also has the air dam with driving lights (switch under AC controls). It is a 5.7 w/auto and bench seat but that works for me (2 adults, 1 kid). I hAve been searching for a Sport or GT in good condition for about 2 years and finally found it about 3 weeks ago. What is an RPO code? If it's on my truck, I can let you know.

Now my question, the previous owner pulled a bass boat with this truck and changed the small sport mirrors for regular chrome mirrors. Of course, he discarded them (not a car/truck guy). I am trying to find a set of the original mirrors if anyone knows where I can find them. I am constantly checking ebay but no luck so far.

I would post a pic of the truck but I haven't taken one yet. Thanks!

RPO stands for Regular Production Option. There will be a sticker on your truck somewhere (glovebox maybe????) that lists the various options included at the factory.

Someone earlier said that the Chevy Sport may be a BYP option code. Someone else should be able to confirm where to look for the sticker.

Thanks tons for the link. I had an 89 shortbed with the sport mirrors but I believe the previous owner had added them. I'll try to get a pic of the truck tomorrow and check on the option code. Thanks again!

I got pics this morning. They are not great but you can get an idea of what the truck looks like. Note the big chrome mirrors that were added by the previous owner. Also looks like we can confirm the BYP code. OK, how do I submit pics? What I thought I did didn't work...

Did they survive?
Did they make much of a difference on the mileage?

The 4l80e is plenty tough for the power of the 454, probably same milage as a 700r4 difference since the overdrive ratio is about the same

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

probably a little better in town than a 700 because it has better gear spacing.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

My brother had the little brother of these trucks he had a 1991 GMC Sonoma ST midnight black. The PO put lo pro tires on it and that gave it the perfect stance. Man that truck was just evil looking. I wish he still had it traded it 4 his 99 Sonoma. They only gave him 500 It ran like crap. So it would have been a perfect candidate for a 350 Swap.

I think 67heaven already bought a truck but I just thought I would add this one to get some good pictures.
Heres the Autotrader link.

And I'll ad the pictures here to be preserved for the next person searching for "sport".

Saw this on craigslist. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...c/truck003.jpg
Is it a Sport? Judging from the mirrors, wheels, front bumper and grille I'd say yes. More here:http://knoxville.craigslist.org/car/544041666.html

I agree. It probably is a Chevy Sport. It has the black (with red) impact strips on the front bumper. However, it's missing the matching side mouldings with the red/black bowtie/1500 emblems on the doors.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

I think I would they should have gone with body colour on the main lines of the grills, but I guess it was cheaper to paint them all black.

Ya' know, I was wondering the same thing. Even painting the entire grill body color; would still like to see that actually.
But that picture posted of the one from TN looks just about right to me. Maybe its the lowered stance, I don't know?

I like it too, wish I had the money, I'd go look at it. Y'all saw the rest of the pics, right? I'm not too crazy about the taillights or rear roll pan, but i like the rest of it. I would probably like the taillights ^&Heaven posted better, the dark ones.

I could handle the roll-pan if it were painted body color.
But the taillights would definitely need to go!

So I stopped in and took a look at this truck today.
It looked to be in real nice shape; not too many chips in the paint, no real dings to speak of, interior was in pretty good shape, doors opened and shut good, etc.
Started it and if puffed a small bit of blue smoke, not bad. When I rev'ed it it had a hint of blue smoke too. It has 139,000 so that might be normal for the age?

I asked if he would consider my '86 GMC 4x4 as trade but he said he tries to stay away from trucks that aren't at least FI. He would take it but he really wouldn't be able to give me anything for it.

He said it was a 5.7 HO engine. Anybody know if that would be true; did the Sports come with an HO engine?

I took a picture of the RPO tag in the glove box.
I will list them here in case they don't show when I post the picture.
I am deciphering them by the link posted above.
