rear coil springs
 

I'm wanting to go a little lower on my 70 C10 trucks rear and I'm wondering about my current springs and if there's a way to tell wether they are aftermarket drop springs, or springs that have been cut or heated to accomplish the current drop.

I've attached a pic of the drivers side spring.

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Those sure look like they have been heated and dropped. Not that I am an expert or anywhere close. I have not seen any coils springs that were OLD and well used that looked all squashed down like yours. My bet is they have been torched.

I'd get new 3" drop springs and some 2" blocks.

When I bought my '68 it had heated original springs in it and they looked exactly like that. I pulled them out and replaced them with some 5" CPP springs. The additional drop after the CPP springs was 2", so my heated springs amounted to about a 3" drop.

I agree with sick472chevy. Those have been heated. How much is your front end dropped? That’s how I would calculate what rear springs to buy. So if your dropped 4” up front, drop 6” I. The rear. You can do it with springs alone or springs and blocks. I went springs and blocks so the shock angle wouldn’t be as severe. Also make sure you do a shock relocation kit. That will also help with the correct shock angle. If your shocks are angled too much, they will not do their job.
