Tail lights and dash lights not working.

I have a 1994 Chevy K 1500. I had the bed off of it recently and then after putting it back on a few days later I lost my tail lights and dash instrument lights. Headlights and brake lights still work. The fuse was blown so I replaced it and pop to the next one. Then I changed out the headlight switch and that didn’t change anything. Could it be a bad ground from the bed to the frame? I remember now there was a ground wire that I did not reconnect, but everything worked for three days after I put the bed back on . The fuse pops as soon as the switch is turned on.

Loss of a ground will not cause the fuse for the lights to blow.

My guess is the wiring got pinched under the bed.

I agree about the ground but thought I’d ask. It’s strange because everything worked fine for a few days then it just stopped. I’ll check the wires under the bed tomorrow. Thanks.

OK so I’ve checked everything I can think of. All the wires look fine under the bed. All the turn signal bulbs work. I disconnected the rear lights all together via the wire harness. I replaced the switch for the headlights and the dimmer. Still popping the fuse immediately. Any other ideas?

See if the fuse still blows after unplugging the:
Radio
AC control head
Headlight switch

Check inside the driver's side frame rail to make sure you didn't pinch a wire when you put the bed bolts back in. I know it took a few days to happen but it could have taken that long to wear through the insulation.

You could pull the bed bolts on the driver's side and see if the fuse still blows.

Well we fixed it. Didn’t actually find anything but when ahead and replaced a wire from the engine bay all the way back to the tail light wire harness. A brown wire supplies power to both taillights and it was shorting out somewhere. The schematic in the Haynes manual was helpful but kind of difficult to decipher. Thanks for all your input
