Ok guys, I'm about to pull the trigger on a harness. I'm thinking one of the two.

Or
Painless 910102060

69 C10. Im putting a 1996 vortec 5.7/4l60e Transmission in it. Staying with the efi. Having the ecm reprogrammed and engine harness reworked most likely by jims. Wanting to totally rewire everything else.

Which is best and most straightforward install. I'm no wiring expert. Need wiring for dummies.

I've never done the AAW but have done a couple of Painless so I vote for Painless.

I have never had an issue with AAW. I always seem to by them because their prices were better.

I used AAW and painless. My 67 c10 has painless and my 71 blazer has AAW. They both are simple to use. I would probably prefer AAW if you want it to look stock. Painless if you are doing custom. The one issue I have about the painless is the heater control wire gets very hot, the AAW doesn't..

Another vote for AAW. Used it in my '68 and '69. No problems whatsoever. Comes with very good wiring diagrams, good for trouble shooting later on.

The heater leads absorbs heat from the resistor could so it's a good idea to upgrade the size of them anyway AND use j1128 spec wiring too-which Im fairly certain both companies do. On the 73-up trucks there is a single 14ga lead that supplies power to the climate control and thus all blower speeds except HIGH-same thing....over time with all the heat in the wiring the weakest link is the connector behind the climate control and it melts over time. Seems GM never anticipated these trucks reaching over 100K miles in their life or they'd have designed a better wiring system. Most companies just copy GM wiring schematics-they'd be better served to improve on the shortcuts GM took-and some do but not enough imo.

Has anyone actually used the American autowire 510089 and installed vortec 5.7 l31 in there truck? I'm a little unclear how I'll tie it all together. My engine harness will be pretty much stand alone but I'll have to have some connections between the 2 harnesses to make all instrumentation and key switch work I'm sure.

I have the AAW classic update. Good quality fuse panel, wire and connectors, wires label etched every foot, easy to follow installation instructions, and 18 circuit panel makes the system nimble to grow with your needs. $550-ish makes it a great investment.

AAW 100% and the classic update harness would be the way to go. Should be no problem with setup you want to run.

AAW is the way to go. great quality, great price, and simple installation. plus mine came with all the switches.
