1972 C10 Suburban - 18" wheels - which tires/sizes?

I bought my '72 from this forum about 7yrs ago. At the time, the previous owner had just installed some new 17" Eagle Alloy wheels and new tires. I wasn't a big fan of the setup, but it was new and I just rolled with it.

Fast forward to today and the tires are finally done. Since I need tires anyway, I wanted to look at replacing the wheels at the same time. I think my truck is lowered 2/3(?). Tires are 255/50 17 front and 275/50 17 rear. Approximate tire height is 27" front and 27.8" rear.

I like GM rally style wheels, but don't want to run 15s. I found these on eBay and like the look and the price - https://goo.gl/SWSyJC

Front: (2) 18x8" - (4.5" Backspace)
Rear: (2) 18x9" - (5" Backspace)
Bolt Pattern(s): 5x4.75 & 5x5
Center Bore: 2.88" or 73mm.

Now my questions -

- does anyone have experience/input on these wheels?

- recommended tire sizes?

I'd like to run something around the same overall height as my current setup, since I plan to lower the truck a little more in the future.

I searched but didn't find much on 18" wheels/tires, it seems like most go bigger or smaller than 18".

Thanks in advance for any help!

I was able to find some add'l info on tire sizes. Looks like a 255/45 18 (27.1") and a 285/40 18 (27.0") should work with my setup. The truck at this link - https://goo.gl/qXH5gH

... is running 285/40 18s at all 4 corners. Looks great to me, although I don't know how mine will look sitting up a few inches higher.

Thanks! I was lucky and after lots of searching I purchased a very nice example from user 72WiscSub. I've driven the truck quite a bit since I bought it and it has been as reliable as a hammer. I actually can't believe I got so many miles out of the tires. I was hoping they'd die years ago so I wouldn't feel bad replacing the wheels.

These are some pics of the truck I took last week -

I might post over in the pickup forum, it seems to get a lot more eyes and replies.

I have a killer 72 (year I was born) Cheyenne Super that is nails! I love it and it is super clean. The problem is I have four kids and a wife and we all can't cruise together. I've been looking but they are tough to Come by. Especially in the shape yours is! I will keep looking on the site!

That's one sweet Burban! You got the plates too! I have no experience with those particular wheels but I have noticed that a lot of the oversized rally wheels have proportion problems and end up looking like a bud truck wheel. I don't know if it is a design copywrite issue or what, but personally i would want to see them in person before I committed to a purchase.
Good luck.

That looks great. Thanks for posting, I was wondering if a 28"+ tall tire would be too tall. If my math is correct...

(245*.45)2/25.4+20=28.7" tall

How do you like running the non-staggered fitment on the tires? Do you think the 245s are narrow looking? There are a bunch of 255/50 18 (about 28" tall) that I can run on an 18x8/9" wheel. I just wondered about the width being too narrow out back.

It's rides really well. Right now it's got a 350 2 brl with a three on the tree. Doesn't have enough power to spin tires. I am very happy with wheels and tires choice

Re: 1972 C10 Suburban - 18" wheels - which tires/sizes?

I searched high and low for a good 18" tire combo front/rear, but didn't come up with anything that I liked. I moved up to 20s and ordered the Rev 107 wheels.

Fronts - 245/45 20 - 28.7"
Rears - 275/40 20 - 28.7"

Tires arrived already, the wheels and centercaps were shipped last week and should be here mid next week. I'll post up pictures once mounted, I'm sure I'll be asking questions about lowering the truck more once they arrive.

The wheels took a slow ride across the country from CA, arriving in MD today. They are lighter than pictured and described and I contacted the seller about it. He tried to dismiss it as different lighting and offered a return, but after mocking it up I'm planning to keep them.

I'll post pics when I get them mounted next week. Then it's on to the suspension! :)
