Solar phone charger

Anybody use one.?
I have a small primative camp and would like to get a smallish solar panel to charge the phone with..or more or less maintain the charge...I know it wont work like plugging it in to 110v..but all I need is something to help maintain the charge...
But I'm lost as to what I'd need to get...any thoughts.?

Re: Solar phone charger

I have no experience with a solar phone charger I just plug it into my trucks 12 volt outlet
When I'm at the cabin there is no cell service anyway so I just plug it into the truck and forget about it till I head home.

Funny thing I was looking at those on Amazon one time and saw you could get what they rate as a pretty decent one for $35-$50 bucks, somebody asked if this charger will work in Australia?

Some wise a** replied No you need the southern hemisphere reverse polarity model...Lol

Re: Solar phone charger

I am sure most solar chargers will work. At work, We run our fuel station and security cameras with solar power.

I wanted a solar power pack for camping. My wife took that wish to the next level, and ordered a solar pack with 12v and 110v.

That puts the wheels turning.

Just get a solar panel and a 12v battery and a power converter and you could run 12v and 110v.

A 100 watt solar panel is about $75.00, and a 12v to 110v converter is $30-$70.

Just hook the solar panel and converter to the battery in your truck.

Re: Solar phone charger

Yeah...mine stays in the truck 95% of the time..on the charger...
I've got some signal where I'm going..and with my folks getting on up in yrs, I try to keep a close check on the missed calls..
I hadnt thought about a 110v one other Larry...ill look into that....I could also do the 12v battery and just run the phone charger of it and hook the panel to the battery..
looked at some the other day and got lost in all the numbers they threw out on them..
I have some small panels that i use for fencecharger and camera batterys...

I have a small Goal Zero solar panel, and love it! When I go on longer motorcycle (off road) rides, I keep it attached to my pack, with a charger cable plugged into my phone. I track my rides via GPS, and share my location with my wife, so if I crash badly, and she sees that I am not moving, she has exact GPS coordinates for my location. I found that my phone battery was frequently dying when I would do that without the charger. It doesn't charge as rapidly as plugging directly into a 12v source, but I have found with high use (like music playing, and two GPS apps running, it will keep the battery about at the same spot as when I start a ride, which is great. I ride in pretty heavily wooded areas. It charges great when I'm in full sun.

Mine is a Goal Zero Nomad 5. You can snap a little Goal Zero battery pack into the back, too. I don't that when I am camping. Then, I. Hargett my phone off of that battery at night, and let it recharge it during the day!

Re: Solar phone charger

In my previous post I called it a power converter. I suppose the proper term is power inverter.

Thanks nik... I actually had one of those saved on my Ebay list..but it is a 7 instead of a 5....
Good to know what works...I get lost in all the numbers they throw out on these things...
I also am looking into the ones other Larry spoke of..but i think I'd like something self contained and easy to pack in I think
