Battery draw / drain
 

Hi, i have a 2003 Tahoe. The battery is two years old and recently started going dead after sitting for a day or two. I checked the draw on the battery by disconnecting the neg cable an putting the leads on the negative cable and neg post. The reading starts at 5.xx. After 10 or 30 seconds it drops to 2.xx. it then drops to about 0.9 and then goes to 0.00. After going to 0.00 it starts jumping around to 0.9 back to 0.00 then to 2.23, etc. It bounces around in various intervals and to different numbers. My understanding is it should sit at about 0.03...
Tried wiggling pos and neg cables, engine block ground while numbers fluctuated th no noticeable reactions to the fluxuating #s... thanks in advance for suggestions.

It could be a faulty module waking back up. This can be frustrating but what I would do is pull every relay and fuse. Slowly plug them in one at a time until the problem starts back up again. At least then you can figure out what circuit it is on. I guess a better way would be to watch your meter and start to unplug relays and fuses to see when the draw stops.

I tried that the other day pulling the common fuses like rhe radio door locks, windows etc. I might have to try it with every fuse i guess...

If the truck has been in water, or had a fair bit of salt water dripped on the seat ( fisherman, surfer, etc..) there is likely horrible corrosion at airbag control module ,connector under driver seat.. Those will pull power, intermittent.

Your first initial voltage drop is the pcm going to sleep . That is normal . Whats not normal is it jumping around after that . As suggested , start pulling fuses until it goes away . Only way I know how to narrow it down .

Numbers w/o units are meaningless. What are the leads? Measuring voltage in an open circuit (disconnected) is meaningless.
Voltage is measured across a load, and current is measured through a load.
If the battery is discharging, disconnect it when not in use for time and charge it.

Any luck finding the problem? My 2005 tahoe is dead over night 8
9 hours or.less. same results as yours on the draw test
