Thanks man, it was alot of planing, two systems you dont want problems with.

Well the other day I said I was 90% sure on wheels, more like 50/50 now. I need to just quit looking and pull the trigger, but it is a big decision.

Im really almost leaning toward this one now, Raceline Royalty.

I would suggest getting either the whole wheel or the center ceramic clearcoated.
had my centers ceramic clearcoated and its the best thing I have ever done.

I agree with you guys, both look good. I had always envisioned having a polished wheel when I did the truck, but then I ran across the Intro with the two tone finish and was really taken in by that. One reservation I had with the satin finish is if you get that part of it dirty, how do you clean it since you cant just start polishing, maybe the clearcoat suggestion would be the way to go, especially with that finish on the wheel.

Today while going back through Facebook looking for an old picture, I ran across a picture of a truck my dad had posted to my wall. I pointed out that I liked everything about that truck except the wheels, and then suggested if it were my truck it would have the Royalty wheel on it. That was about 3 years ago, and I think my initial impression is the way to go, kind of a gut feeling I guess.

Thanks, I just need to get them ordered now, Ive been looking at other stuff on the truck and kind of dropped the ball on wheels.

My project honesty feels like it is moving at a snails pace, even though its really not going too bad. One part Im really dreading is next on my list, rust repair and panel replacement. I enjoy doing about everything else, but welding and grinding really isnt something I enjoy or am skilled at.

My cab is by no means terrible, but the more I dig the more I am finding. This showed up last weekend, pounded on it with a 9/16 wrench for about 30 seconds and had this.

Ouch yeah grinding isn't fun at all. Your build is coming along nicely though. Keep up the good work it will pay off soon.

Ive been meaning to update, just working on small stuff so I havent done it. I took about a month off from the truck to build a fence, yay, but I got that done before it got hot so Im back on the truck full bore now.

Ive been working on cutting holes in the cab for various things, engine wiring, new radio, etc. Started doing some welding as well, I really havent welded at all so that has been a learning process, but I really enjoy it and have gotten a lot better in a short time. Im not gonna lie, youtube helped me alot. I got the old gas filler filled, and core support creases smoothed. We also finished up the brake lines to the master cylinder and mocked up my coils on my engine. Coils should go down about another inch hopefully, I would have liked to have stacked them 2 by 2 but I just didnt have the room, barely enough as it is.

I ordered my wheels about 2 weeks ago, I went with none of my above choices and got Raceline Hooligan's. Ive been eyeing those for a while too and they just jumped out at me.

Next couple weeks is going to be rockers, floor support, firewall smoothing.

Some of the fun from the last couple days. This has really turned out to be more involved than what I thought it was going to be. Im trying to save my factory cab corners as they are actually in pretty good shape, real minor surface rust. Its just the fact that keeping them on makes for a harder repair since there isnt any room to work.

Hopefully I can get these patched up next weekend, but Im guessing it will might take longer

Yeah, that repair sucks. You should try it on a Blazer, inside the rocker box. Blech. Worth it when it's all done, though

Yea its not fun.

Did some more digging today, and my hole got bigger. My panels are all in decent shape but they are pitted enough or gone completely in the key areas that I will probably just end up replacing them rather than try and save them. So Im probably going to end up with most of the usual repairs for these trucks. Im not really surprised but I had hoped to not have to go this far with the way the truck looked at first glance.

Going to have to do some reading and figure out a plan of attack, not really sure if I want to button up the floor supports and then work my way to the inner rocker and then onto the outer rocker, or just cut from the outside and work my way in. I feel like if I cut from the outside in Im going to loose alot of my reference points and end up with alignment issues.

That's a 5-dimensional puzzle. Keep/patch the floor support, if you can. The bolt holes are a good reference point, and most of the repops are garbage anyway. Make sure to mock up your door and fender for alignment before burning the outer rocker in. It's not bad once you get into it, just labor intensive

I think thats what Im going to do, get the floor supports at least tacked, if not done, and use them as a reference before I go farther. You arent kidding on the repop floor support quality, I think on the fronts Im going to piece in my own as they arent as bad as the rears.

I was really disappointed in the rocker quality too, the tooling marks leave a lot to be desired. It kind of worries me about the quality of short box Ill get and the nightmares that might hold.

From where did you order? I've had good luck with GMCPauls, though you pay for it. Big box stores and eBay are a crapshoot

I ordered from a local vendor close by that deals with truck parts, Ive also ordered from classicparts.com. I got both rear floor supports, left from my local guy, right from classic parts, both are the exact same with the tooling marks. Not a big deal at all on these as they will never been seen.

My rockers have the same if not worse tooling marks, at first I thought I got a bad set or something but I searched some other threads and most of them that I could see had the same marks. These will body work out, but I guess I expected a little bit better piece. It might just be the norm, as I have never done anything like this before.

Also all my panels are Key Parts/Tri-plus.

My rockers were same way and required slight body work too.
